1076 FBI (again!)
Hi all, I bought a 1076 yesterday off of one of the auction sights, and I will get it lettered this fall. This got me wondering. Has anyone compiled a database for confirmed FBI guns? Mine is TFP21XX. Are there any confirmed guns close to this? Thanks in advance, Steve

Good thread
Check the thread just below. A lot of great info but I haven't heard of a log of confirmed 1076's, but is there is one then DMC would know about it.

Steve, your pistol may well letter as an FBI pistol. While your number is not on my list that does not mean it's not FBI. I own one lettered TFP prefix FBI 1076. Please let me know when You do receive your letter. Thanks, Dave

Sounds promising that you too have a FBI 1076.

The history of the FBI guns is very interesting, I just haven't been able to get one. For now I just enjoy my 1006 and hope this economy will pick up so I can resume my collecting S-W's!!

The scary part is all the S&W Large Frame 3rd Generation are going up in price. The 1076 is starting to sell for more used than they did new. If I saw another one like mine for the price I paid for it I'd jump on it.

Got my letter today. Mr. Jinks says that my 1076 is a Double Action Only, Special Police Order. He also states that it was shipped on 12-12-92 and delivered to the Virginia State Police in Richmond.
My pistol is not a DAO. I didn't know that they made the 1076 in DAO!
What is a Special Police Order?

I think I would question the accuracy of the letter. He stated my 1076 was a revolver, and it made me think he had copied the incorrect information. I requested a correction, and Mr. Jinks got a little huffy about it but did make the correction at my insistence. I still have both originals. Mistakes do happen.
