Default New 3913 TSW?

Is it possible for an old retired guy to buy a new 33913 TSW, if so how would I go about it? I understand that S&W says LEO sales only.

There is a nice used one for sale now on Gun Broker. Do a search under "3912" because the listing has a typo in the title.

Why does it have to be a TSW? There are loads of 3913s available and they sell well.

Old Roger, as far as I know the 3913 TSW is not LEO only. S&W only ships them to LEO with night sights, but the are available to everyone without the night sights unless they changed the requirement recently.

The 3913 TSW is hard to find, just like a lot of other low volume S&W models. Just keep checking Gunbroker, GunsAmerica and the othe auction sites, they pop up once in a while.

Also, like Dot says, there is nothing wrong with the stock 3913. I have one and it is a great, reliable gun.

Default No real difference...

I own a 3913TSW and have handled and shot plain-jane 3913s. If there is a difference in the two models I can't tell. I'd have no hesitation picking up a good used base model 3913. They are outstanding pistols!

I would have to agree. Other than logos/black controls etc.. I never did see any glaring upgrades in the TSW. Any 3913 is a fine pistol, my 3913 NL is perfection. Just find a good clean 3913 of any derivative and you will be glad you did. !

Call the designated S&W LE distributor for your area and ask. You could also call S&W and ask to speak to someone about LE sales for an individual (retired) purchase. The distributor will generally set their own price for individual officer sales.

S&W discontinued production of a number of their models for commercial sales which are still available for LE/Gov order and sales, including the TSW series. (Although there might be some NIB models sitting around on some dealer's shelf somewhere.)

I've been told that they generally make some small number of additional guns whenever they make a production run for an order. If what you want is sitting in their vault from a normal overrun, and isn't spoken for, they might release it to one of their LE distributors for an individual sale.

I was told of an individual cop who was able to buy a new production 5906 (not the 5906TSW, but just a regular 5906) through a distributor which had been 'surplus' from a production run when S&W had made some of the older model guns for one of their existing agency customers.

I've had it in the back of my mind to pick up a newer 3913TSW to supplement my late-production 3913. While I'm not interested in having an accessory rail on a compact pistol, having the larger box-type frame rails (instead of the smaller step-type frame rails), the slightly delayed unlocking and the loaded chamber inspection port in the barrel tab are features I'd like to have which my standard 3913 doesn't possess.

Also, there have been some continual refinements in how the manufacturing of the parts has been done since the original models were being produced, but nothing that would probably stand out unless you knew where to look.

Thanks guys;
My reason for the TSW was two fold, first it seems to still be in production and in theory I could get a new one. Second, it has the removable rail and I had thought of putting a laser on it for my wife’s use.

I have been watching them on GB and either I don’t know what they are worth or the sellers there don’t.
Someone has a used 3913 LS up for $900?.....The 3913 TSW, listed as a 3912 starts at $575. I had assumed a figure more in the low/mid $400s for a gently used pistol. Am I way off?

Anyone have a reasonable value figure?
Roger

How do I find out who the designated S&W LE dealer is for this area? My local dealer says he can’t/won’t order one, and is of no help generally.
I would at least like to know price and availability.
I have absolutely no connections with any of the LE departments here, or anywhere else for that matter

Also bear in mind that there are two versions of the 3913TSW.

There's the 'original' model made without the accessory rail, loaded chamber inspection port, uses a 7-round magazine and has the front of the grip frame cutaway to accommodate the reduced length magazine ... and then there's the current model which has the standard profile grip frame, uses the standard 8-rd magazine, has the loaded chamber inspection port and has the riveted accessory rail.

FWIW, I haven't heard if the newest ones have also received the integral machined rail as has been offered as an option on the 4566/4006TSW's. I know an agency who just received an order of some new production 3913TSW's as issue weapons, so I'll have to remember to ask about them next time I have the chance.

Default need the rail?

if not, a 3914 should be findable, or a 3913, my 3914 is an outstanding shooter, better than my 3913LS.

oldRoger, as a point of reference I recently purchased a LN 3913 from a local gun shop for $495 which included night sights, a holster, and 2 magazines.

I recently bought a 3913tsw (with rail) on gunbroker. It appeared to have been fired , but like new in the original box. I paid $505 and I feel I got a good deal.

All of the 3913s seem to have gone up in price because of the strong demand. The Lady Smith and the NL models with the sloped dust cover go for extra dollars, probably $50 over the regular 3913s. A nice 3913 with two mags will sell for about $400 to $440 or maybe a little more. Of course you can sometimes find one for less.

Two months ago I found a good deal on a 3913 in very nice condition with two mags for $425 but that included NICs and no shipping was necessary. These are exceptional guns for carry and I am so impressed with it that I am thinking of getting a second.

Thanks to all who have replied so far.
Evidently my speculation of the mid $400s for a lightly used, no box, 3913 TSW “9 Tactical” is in the ball park.

There seems to be no way to do a search on line of S&W LE distributors to find out if new one is on the shelf, or in the S&W vault. Wouldn’t that be a great innovation?

Yeah, unless you know who the LE distributor is in your area (or state), you'd probably have to call S&W and ask to speak to someone in the LE Sales dept. The distributor would then have to call and ask what's available at that time (presuming the distributor was willing to handle a direct sale).

FWIW, I stopped by and checked a newly received, new-production 3913TSW at an agency where I know the rangemaster and the accessory rail was riveted onto the frame's dustcover (not being machined into the alloy frame).

The TSW upgrades may not have been visible (except the change in external markings and the light rail), but I believe the TSW guns were designed to be modular (an armorer can change one from DA/SA to DAO), the sight dovetail cuts were made so that an adjustable sight made, I believe by LPA, could be installed, if desired, in place of the Novak rear sight, and most importantly, I believe the TSW line adopted the geometry changes in the locking system pioneered in the performance center whereby the weapon remains locked slightly longer and the unlocking is spread over a slightly longer time (we are talking milliseconds here), a change which allows certain very great advantages in the use of high performance ammo and weapon life. Thus, although the pistols appear similar on the outside, there is just no comparison. If given a choice, always select a TSW pistol, if you can.

Old Roger... Hope all is well!! I too am looking for the exact same pistol you are. I have found in Philly, a fellow selling a nice first version of the 3913tsw. Like you, though, I am in need of a 2nd version NIB or LNIB and having a helluva time finding one. Have been canvasing the gun shows here in PA with no luck. Found plenty of std. 3913s, but no luck on the tsw. Feel free to pm me with any leads you might have. Thanks.

Question: I have a 3913TSW but it has a nickel decocker and slide lock. It also does not have the frame rail. Whats the deal? was there a production change that do not know about?

Default TSW

That one has black extremities. Mine are nickel.
http://fud-files.netfirms.com/image/...e/guns/f01.jpg Mine looks just like this one, although this is an image from a google search.
I also do not have a chamber loaded indicator.hole in the barrel to see the brass.

What state you live in?

http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...4151&langId=-1

Since I already know the 2 existing LE distributors in my state I usually just toss those extra forms, lists, schedules, net working and promo materials after each armorer class. Sorry.

Even once you find an actual distributor it's up to them if they want to get involved in doing a direct sale to an individual active/retired cop, of course, as well as how they may want to set the price.

As previously mentioned, sometimes they decide to clean out their existing inventory of various odds & ends, including overrun production from LE orders and contracts, so it's still possible to find brand new models which have entered the wholesale/distribution.commercial pipeline.

Just depends how much effort you feel is merited.

Edited to include a more direct link.

You might want to consider the model 3953 or 3954. Same gun in double action only (DAO). I have one of each. Great shooters.

The original TSW's lacked the accessory rail, loaded chamber inspection port and the machining needed to accept the optional spring-loaded, decock-only assembly.

The manual safety and slide stop lever were simply plain finish, not nickel. Those parts are still available in plain finish (versus black) when ordering parts. I've ordered slide stops and spring-loaded, decock assemblies in both finishes. S&W got caught up in the 2-tone/contrast finish thing some time back.

Default New 3913TSW's in East Windsor CT

Old Roger and Pa,
My local shop Riverview Sales in East Windsor CT had 2 new 3913tsw' for sale. The owner got his hands on an overrun of 3913TSW's, 3914tsw's, chief specials and i even saw a 5906tsw. I was there a week ago and they were still there. I previously bought 2 3913tsw's and a 3914tsw. Other forum members have bought some after getting my heads up

Hope this helps

So should I assume that mine is of the original production stock? And if so how would I go about finding out when it was made? I bought it used at a Gander Mountain here in Michigan, so there's no paperwork with it.

Default Thanks to all who replied.

At the time of the original post 10-03-09, I was unable to find a 3913 TSW except for a battered, beat, overpriced one on GB.
However a forum member found me a new 3913 LS. I am very happy with it; it’s a great concealable pistol. I think now better for me than a 3916 TSW, especially if you were to actually use the rail on the TSW.
I have a 4566 TSW and have put a Laser on that.

THE 3913 IS A GREAT WEAPON. I HAVE BEEN USING MINE AT WORK AND AS CONCEALED AND COMPACT IT IS PERFECT. AS FOR PRICE, I WOULD SAY A NICE USED 3913 WILL RUN BETWEEN 450. AND 475. ON THE GUN AUCTION SITES. IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO PURCHASE ONE, BUY IT.
