Pic of my early 4506
Just got this from it's original owner, he bought it new in late 1989. Excellent plus condition, shot very little with original box and paperwork. I put a few rounds through it at the range and it's a real shooter! This is my second 4506, they've replaced my 1911's as my 45's, my better half staked her claim on my 1911's. I like the old school look of the square trigger guard.

Very Nice. I'm trying to find a nice 4506 myself and I also like the squared trigger guard but prefer the novaks. A littel harder to find in that configuration.

Beautiful 4506, and great photo, too. I also prefer the first model triggerguard and the Novak sights, but I'd like to find a 4566, due to the shorter slide. I'd also prefer the Novak night sights. This is one of the guns on my wish list. -Ed.

I don't have a trigger pull gauge but my SWAG is about 12lbs or so.

That is a beauty. I have a 4566 and 4516 but I would still like to have a 4506. We never get enough of 3rd Gen. S&Ws.

In my opinion S&W made a mistake when they discontinued the 4506, even with all the plastic 45's out there including the M&P, they could sell a boat load of 4506's! S&W should at least make special once a year runs on the 4506,5906, and 4006. There is still a demand for metal frame pistols, Sig Sauer sells a ton of their 220ST, 226ST, 229ST, I believe they now call them the Elite models. S&W needs look around, and bring back my beloved 4506! OK maybe I'm ranting but hey maybe somebody from S&W might read this and take it to heart.

AGREED!! I just discovered them and I'm totally smitten by the 4506, yeah it's big and heavy and doesn't have all the tacticool goodies most folks crave. But it just works and works well, a often overlooked aspect of fighting with a handgun is the fact that you will eventually run out of ammo. Leaving you with a club, a lightweight easy to carry M&P doesn't make near as good a club as an all steel auto.
When I went through our local LE academy back in the early 90's we were taught strikes with our services weps, at the time it was a 4" 686 or a 5906. Both worked very well as our practice dummies(numb johns) took a serious beating from them. I wonder if that's even taught anymore? That's one of the reasons I like the square trigger guard...

Couldn't of said it better! Maybe with S&W making the "Classic" series of revolvers, they'll make a line of these fine, better than a M&P, autos.

Congrats on a real classic! I have one from about that same time frame (TEZ ser. no.) that has the blade-type rear sight and the rounded grips. Obviously, it is a police trade-in. Mine looks like it was carried a lot but shot very little as it is a great shooter! I would buy another in a heartbeat, especially if I found one in the condition yours is in.
I wish S&W would bring them back but, I doubt it will happen.

I carried one when on patrol and loved it. I found that when I went to plainclothes it was too heavy. Carried a Glock for a while, finally back with the M&P 45.
It is built like a tank, and solid as a rock.

I carried a 4506 for 18 years after my PD traded our model 10s. It took a while to get the hang of the DA/SA trigger but in time I really took to it. Luckily I was able to purchase it for one dollar upon retirement.
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

A one dollar 4506?? Sounds like the deal of the century. You must have been well liked. Congrats!
I have a 4566 and use it as my primary home defense gun. I need to get my night-sight vials renewed as they are starting to dim a little. I would love to pick a 4506, especially one with the older style trigger guard.
Great gun.

Actually, all officers who retire in good standing could buy their service weapon for one dollar. This was part of our FOP/City work agreement.

Man I would love to own a 4506, I have a 1006 and I love it. I wonder if there is a way to let S&W know there is a market for these pistols? Maybe they could do some Performance Center editions? I would personally buy another 1006, a 4506 and a 5906. Come on S&W!! Listen to the customers, we have money to spend lol
