Default $200 MPD 4043TSW

Just picked up this gem. Not sure what to think but for $200 I guess it's whatever. This is a Memphis PD 4043TSW with MPD prefix serial number, that has had a very hard life. Some one tried to "clean it up" and did a piss poor job. They took off so much material you can't read the serial number or seem the MPD shield so well. Only way to know the serial number is the one under the grip. You can tell the pistol was covered in rust at one point and for awhile too. I think for $200 tho why not, inside it looks to have been fired very little, shame that it was abused. Guy who sold it to me either lied saying it was ready to go or doesn't know how a semi auto pistol works ( no tension to the hammer due to the lack of hammer spring plunger). Any how had a spare one so didn't bother me. Anyway enjoy the "eye candy" or a good giggle either or.

Whew baby. Honestly I don’t think I would have given any money for that because whoever polished the frame took all of the anodizing off and that aluminum is going to be very soft.

With that being said I hope you get some decent use out of it, although it’s life has been shortened dramatically. $200 is OK if you wanted the gun.

Serial number willfully removed? I wouldn't take delivery of that one.

It's still on the frame anyhow, I was the same way tho. Never really had a firearm with "no serial number".

I have only seen it on TSW pistols and one late 4006.

Interesting acquisition...

When I first saw the listing for this pistol on GB, the seller had neglected to post pictures.
My curiosity was piqued as I hoped it would be a gun with a broken part and a seller with no clue as to how to fix it.

When the pictures were posted it looked to me like someone had tried to remove the finish with a paint scraper!

Still, had I not already purchased a 4043TSW a few years back, I might have gone for it.

The 4043TSW I purchased was priced at $299.00 and came with original box.

Sounds like a great deal, but mine was also "finish challenged" although not nearly as bad.
Mine was an LEO turn-in that looked pretty good... except for a bunch of scratches on the front strap, down by the mag well, where the seat belt buckle on the Crown Vic cruiser was doing its dirty work.

They must have had some bumpy roads in that jurisdiction...

Anyway, the 4043TSW is a great gun.

It's easily convertible to TDA (and back) and lighter to carry than my 4006/46TSWs, although my one time shooting it with the 357 Sig barrel convinced me that the 357 Sig is for steel framed pistols only.

BTW, that frame will be fine.
Aluminum doesn't get "squishy" when the anodizing is removed, no matter how often that baloney is repeated on the interwebs.

Congrats on your new pistol!

John

Here's a post about the one I bought:

I have read that post, it looks like it is definitely $99.00 more gun. I have one 4046TSW that I got for $60 more than this and it is far better. Oh well it's going in the glove box.

Is that one of the Brinks trade-ins?

Your $200 4043TSW may no longer be the "belle of the ball", but make no mistake about it, the railed TSW models represented the culmination of everything the S&W engineering and production staff learned about metallurgy and metal framed, center fire, semi auto pistol design in over a half century of continued manufacture.

Add to that, your TSW pistols were also built on the newest and finest CNC machines S&W ever used, by craftsmen who by that time had become experts in CNC operation!

I would sooner trust my life to the most finish challenged TSW pistol I've ever seen (could that be yours? ) than any one of the 350,000 (that's almost a gazillion!!) model 39s floating around out there, even if NIB.

IMHO, the railed TSW pistols were the finest metal framed, duty pistols S&W ever built.

Your glove box and environs are very well protected.

John

It was a brinks pistol, the 4046TSW. I agree I would still take this over a glock (with new springs and stuff of course).
