Default Smith & Wesson Warranty?

I am considering buying an M&P 9mm fullsize next week. IF Anything breaks or goes wrong with it, how is Smith&Wesson at dealing with repair work? Is it an easy process sending a pistol to them? I plan on shooting the M&P A LOT if I buy it. Are there replacement parts available for the M&P? Thanks

I do not have a M+P but I have returned my 640 and my CS9 for warranty work.I must say the S+W warrantee is fantastic. You call their #,they send you a pre paid return ticket, they fix the problem, and send it back to you.My 640 was a well shot gun where the barrel blew off and the frame cracked using factory 38 cal loads. They had armorer inspect the gun, they destroyed it , sent me a factory letter attesting to its demise, and sent me a new 640 in the span of a few weeks. My CS9 had a broken trigger relief spring, they sent a pre paid return label,I had them also do a trigger job and conversion to DAO @ the same time, paid for that work, and in 15 days it was back to me with the work completed. The M+P is a excellent pistol.Buy it,shoot it and enjoy it.....God Bless......Mike

I have an M&P9 and it has been excellent and flawless. I liked it so much I bought a Full Size M&P357Sig with Crimson Trace laser grip for everyday carry and it has been excellent also. I wouldn't sell or trade mine if I could make a $200-$300 profit, just not happening.

Don't have the full size but my M&P9c has been great to shoot, no problems whatsoever. I have not had a need to have it back for service. I did have a M-586 revolver that was sent back for warranty work. The process Cruiser explanined is right on point. You read about complaints about customer service on a lot of the other gun forums, S&W CS has to rank near the top.

Talking Smith & Wesson Customer Service is #1

I had to send my .460XVR and my 9mm M&Pc back to customer service. The .460 for a machining flaw in the frame. And the M&P for some deep scratches in the slide that came with it new. Both were returned within 2 weeks and repaired perfectly. The 9mm they just put on a new slide and they told me to send it with NO magazine. When I got it back they had slipped a new magazine in the case to send back with the gun....cool! And the .460 they fixed the bad seam by the hammer and it was done perfect, couldn't tell it was ever not right. I am still trying to figure out how they fixed that one! They are faster with warranty work than general paying customer repair work so I have been told. I will rate them 100% and the best warranty and customer service in the business. I would not hesitate to send them back anything, anytime!

S&W customer Service/Warranty are second only to Dillon Precision's No Bull warranty. S&W is almost No Bull warranty. They have always gone way above what I have asked them to do for me.

You asked about parts! They are available from folks like Midway, Brownell's, as well as S&W. The good part is some of the internal parts are interchangeable, such as the sear block which is the same on the 9mm & 40sw. The M&P 40 can be changed to a 357sig simply by changing the barrel as the 40 & 357 mags are the same.

Thanks for all the help. I ended up picking up an M&P9 fullsize today. Fired 100 flawless rounds through it. I am very happy with it so far.

The only additional thing I could add is my Model 41 went full auto so I brought it to S & W and the fixed it like new BUT charged me for parts not labor because it is considered a competition gun.

Smart move picking up the gun.

Thanks Pop

I have two revolvers back with S&W now....not sure what the outcome will be, but will post here once I get them back.

Only concern I have at the moment is that I've seen a number of posts where S&W no longer produces parts for a certain older model and will offer to replace the gun with a modern version. For the folks who don't like the MIM, lock, two piece barrel, etc... this might not be exactly what they would like.

I called customer service to tell them that my 640 failed to fire twice with a box of factory ammunition. I have about 300 rounds through the gun, and it is cleaned thoroughly after every visit to the range. The response was "That's not so bad". Then silence. I guess it would be bad if someone was shooting back rather than a paper target. The customer service rep just couldn't care less. Finally he said "Use better ammo. The gun is fine."

I'd try calling them again and see if you can get someone who's more receptive.

My only experience with S&W support so far has been on an '02 Walther P99 I purchased two weeks ago. It had a frame failure less than a week after I bought it (while dry firing with snap caps amazingly enough) It was imported by S&W and they handle repair work. Despite the official Walther warranty only being 1 year the store where I purchased it was able to get it sent in to S&W at no cost...I haven't gotten the pistol back yet so I'm not sure what the final outcome will be but I would imagine I would have been told "no" by now if they weren't going to fix it.

I sent my 3913 in once because a snap cap was getting stuck in the barrel after repeated trigger pulls. They paid for shipping both way, and they detail stripped it, cleaned it, replaced the mag catch and extractor (didn't know they were defective), and even included a free mag since I forgot to send one in with the gun (mag disconnect). Zero charged to me.

I sent my wife's 3913 to LSG Mfg (An authorized S&W service center) and had it back 4 days later with a new extractor. Everything, including shipping both ways, was covered by S&W. You might want to give them a call.

I bought a 66-1 2.5" several month ago. The trigger pull had been butchered but the price was right. Sent it to S&W, asked them to return the pull to factory and smooth the action. Came back with a great, smooth pull. Gave them my credit card number for the work but charges never showed up on the card. I've also had them reblue guns for me. They do good work.

My repair experience was not 100%. The repair it self went ok but was untimely and came back with light scratches on the slide. (Mod41)

I saw this thread and had to respond. I bought a new 386NG a couple of months ago. Third time on range I had all kinds of problems. I followed the recommendations stated earlier in this thread. I sent my gun to S&W via FEDEX on a Tuesday, 9 days later FEDEX came to my door with the repaired revolver. This afternoon I am taking it back out to the range to check it out. I couldn't be happier with the time it took to send it in and get it back. On that count I give S&W the highest praise. Later today I'll know if all is as it should be regarding the repairs. My only complaint is that I had to go through this hassle on a brand new gun. On the other hand, a high percentage of new items I buy today don't work like they are supposed to when I get them. I'm beginning to think its just me.

Never needed the warranty but needed a couple parts for one of my S&W guns. Called Customer Service and had the parts I needed two days later with a free magazine and a bushing tool.

Total cost was NOTHING. S&W sent them to me for free.

Unhappy My recent repair work

I was informed by a random person on YouTube who saw my video detailing my 22a slide issue, that my handgun was under a recall. Since it was 2 issues and both were under warrantee, I contacted S&W about a repair, and was told to use my original case if the issue involved a magazine then to include all of them, and to include a note detailing both issues. Since the issue involved seemed to be that the magazine was not locking high enough in place to trip the locking mechanism, I included both (in case it was a magazine issue) took photos of all I included and attached return mail labels to each piece.
Weeks later I got my gun back, to my shock neither the recall nor the non-locking slide was done, instead the technician took it upon himself to go against the request and instead "replaced the magazine" and to my HORROR, he had kept one of the magazines. So zero of the issues were addressed and I was down by 1 magazine.
My first impulse was to hope to God this was not done just to me, but then realizing if it didn't and this was business as usual and it happened often. I called and spoke to a person on the phone and was told that I could duplicate the first process and send it in for a few more weeks and "hopefully" it would get fixed this time. I'm not accustomed to performing the same behavior & expecting new and improved results.
This has left me extremely uneasy about sending it in a 2nd time, I'm already missing a magazine and when I asked the person on the phone "if I send it in again will they keep the other magazine?" and all he could say was "I hope not", which brought no comfort or assurance.
I am traveling out of state and sent it in, in time to be ready for the trip. It is my most, California legal handgun I own and now with this I can't take it on my trip.
This has left me very concerned if the note was discarded the first time what's to prevent a recurrence?
I still don't have my magazine and it's left me uneasy about getting that back as well.

You could not ask for better warranty service. I sent my used M&P 380 Bodyguard back for service two weeks ago and got the repaired weapon back to day. No bill, no shipping cost. Just Great Service. I am a lifetime S&W customer just like their warranty.
