Default Restoring The Finish On My S/S Smith

I recently acquired a used Smith & Wesson Model 4006 that has some holster wear scuff mark issues. Is there any way I can buff these out and maintain the factory matte finish? Thanks.

The only way to restore the factory finish is to have it beadblasted, anything else leaves it shiny.

I recently acquired a 4006 which was a police trade in. It had holster wear which resulted in shiny spots on it. Following tips found on this forum I bought a 3M Scotch-Brite green scrubber pad (less than 2 dollars) and used it to buff out the shiny places. It worked great! Just remember to buff from different directions or in small circles.

I too, recently acquired a police trade 4006 with some moderate holster shine. First cleaned the finish using 3M white pads and then followed up with 3M brown and green pads. Did a good job of removing shine and almost restoring to original finish. You have to look close to tell where the shine was. Bead blasting would of course restore it to completely new appearance.

bead blasting does wonders but requires a complete strip down.

I've used the green Scotch-Brite pads on three 3rd-gens. IMO, sanding back and forth like sandpaper will give it a duller and a fine grain look. Sanding in circles will give it a brighter non-grain look.
Do not use on the TSW pistols!

Here I did the circle sanding on the slide and back part of the receiver, and the back and forth on the dustcover. You can see the difference between the two and the faint grain direction on the dustcover.

Thanks fellows! Now I have to decide which direction to move the pad in order to get the factory matte look: circular or back and forth. Two posters seem to have different approaches to achieve the same result-unless I'm misunderstanding the advice(s).
