Default Another 1076 question

I have a 1076 TFP80XX. Slide reads, caution: refer to instruction manual.
It will fire without a magazine. The slide has a hole for the magazine safety.
Should it have the hole, or did the previous owner remove the magazine safety? On the left is a 4013 with the magazine safety. The 4013 has a white plastic plunger. On the right is the 1076 with no magazine safety, notice no plunger. The 1076 does have the hole in the slide for the safety. Is the hole in the slide normal for a 1076 with no magazine safety? Or should it not have the hole machined into the slide? Thanks

The post doesn't make sense. If the slide has the warning then the weapon didn't come with a mag safety. This is the same warning on new SW1911 models. How could something be removed that wasn't there in the first place ? The "hole" must be something else, post a picture.

I don't think S&W would run two different slides for those guns... I'm sure if someone with an FBI 1076 pulls the slide off, they will see the same thing.

If the mag safety is out from the factory then the slide usually reads "Caution; Gun will Fire without Magazine". I would have to say yours was removed after it left the factory.

I agree. This is a civilian production pistol and someone has removed the mag safety. FYI, FBI 1076s come both ways, with the hole and without the hole. Early FBI pistols have the hole. The FBI objected and asked that the hole not be machined in the slide. Later FBI 1076s have no hole.

I have a 1076 product code 105901. According to the SCSW, it is a FBI contract model; however, it was not shipped to the FBI. Per Roy Jinks' letter, it was sent to a police department. It has the slide without the hole, just like the one in John Sobieski's picture. The slide also has the warning: "CAUTION - CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED". Instead of the blue cardboard box, this 1076 came in the blue S&W plastic case with the label serial numbered to the pistol. On the label under Features, it is marked: **SPECIAL**
