Default 6906 Hammer

Hi Folks... My oldest buddy (best man at my wedding decades ago) has a 6906. He likes the gun but not the hammer because it is a pain to cock for single action. Has anyone changed the hammer over? And if you did, what did you use.

Please comment on how that replacement went, and could you post a picture of the finished work?

Thanks,

Rick

Default Bobtail

I had a 4006 with the same bobtailed hammer as the 6906. I posted a want ad on the forum and another member sold me the parts to change it out for somewhere around 20 pesos/dollars.

I was pretty easy to do.

I'm the guy with the 6906 that hates the hammer. I carry 12 and 1 in the pipe. I would prefer to fire the first round single action.
If any one can point me in the right direction to find a hammer that will work on the 6906 I would greatly appreciate it.

I do not have a spare hammer but I bet someone will. My 39s have full hammers & I would not want a spurless hammer. There are lots of times I cock or uncock the hammer by thumb. I don't want a spurless DA revolver either.

I got a hammer & strut assembly for a 5906/4006 as that seems to be more common than just a hammer. Since my bench grinder was easier to find than the proper punch, I just ground the strut to the same length as my 6906. Works perfectly and looks good too.

You could also use a bobbed hammer from a 2nd gen x69 series. It'll give you the serrated part on the top of the triiger and a half-cock notch which would allow easy cocking for single action.

Trying to manually cock a 6906 hammer is dangerous. Some guys have used a 5906 hammer. I have a 6906 that I love, and a 5903. I like the ability to cock the hammer on the 5903, but for a carry gun, I think the 6906 should be left as it is. If you give me your email, I can send you a word doc ith pics and instructions.
