Default Smith Model 4006 Grips Question

I'm looking to buy checkered walnut grips to replace the factory grips on my Smith & Wesson Model 4006. Can anybody point me in a good direction? Thanks.

I don't know of anyone making walnut grips for the 4006 except for Kn Nill, which are quite expensive and require a hole drilled and tapped in the frame.

Houge makes grips for the 4006 out of Pau Ferro wood, which looks like walnut.
Their 5900 Series grips fit the 4006.

Thumbs up

Look at this page from the Hogue website.

The smooth rosewood grips are a nice dark color that looks just like walnut.

The small pic of the checkered rosewood just looks almost black; it's a bad pic.

If you click on the checkered walnut pic, it will take you to a page where you can click on 'larger image', to get a decent look at the checkered rosewood grips

The checkered rosewood are pretty pricey at $104.95.

But, they HAVE to about half the cost of Nills, and no gunsmithing required.

Good luck.

Thanks for the inputs. Too bad the choices are so expensive (about a third of the price I paid for the pistol!). I might have to go synthetic but I really prefer nicely checkered wood (it doesn't have to be walnut).

I had a set of the smooth Goncalvo Alves(sp?) for my 5906.

I didn't like them: they made the grips too bulky; they are plenty big as they are. I sold those grips.

For all the double stack 3rd gen. S&W semiautos, I've never found, or even seen, anything I like as much as the factory grips.

They aren't fancy, but they ARE functional.

I bought a set of the straight back, factory 4006 grips for my 5906; I greatly prefer them to the stock curved back 5906.

And the Houge wood grips are getting pretty pricy; the smooth ones are less expensive. of course.

If you have large hands, the wood grips may fit you better; my hands are on the small side.

Good luck.
