Default 4506 vs. 1006

Anyone own both of these? How does the recoil compare between these two guns? Are they the same weight and size?

I have one of each and have fired several of each over the years. The 4506 is a very pleasant shooting .45 due to the all steel (stainless) construction which means there is enough weight to help tame recoil.
The 1006 is the same by weight but if you shoot HOT 10mm through the pistol it will not feel like a .45.

I handload all of my range ammo so I can tailor my ammunition to what I prefer in each pistol. I like .45 with relatively full power in a 185 grain bullet and the 10mm I prefer as of now is a 135 grain bullet that should be moving at close to 1500 fps at the muzzle. The .45 with my ammo shoots real smooth, the 10 has a notable increase in blast and flash with my ammo vs. the .45. I think of the 135 grain 10mm as something like a .38 super
on steroids, there is really not much recoil with the relatively light 135 gr
bullet and it seems to shoot very well in my 1006.

I have fired some 175 grain Win STHP through a 1006 in years past, I did notice that there was more muzzle flip vs. what I had experienced in a 4506 shooting .230 grain ball. The recoil is also faster through the 10, I think it is a combination of a higher velocity bullet along with a heavier recoil spring that makes the 10 feel faster than the .45.

Thank you. That's exactly what I wanted to know. I'm not a reloader, but it sounds like the 1006 has a little more flip and recoil with anything other than weaker loads.

Yeah the 10mm is going to be bit more snappy with factory ammo , but hey its nearly .41 magnum power levels, so it should be. I carry mine for backup while deer hunting, most 4 and 2 legged varmints will fall if they try to interrupt my deer hunt.

Default Recoil

I have both but haven't shot both on same day so hard to say for me. I'll have to take them both out tomorrow and report my findings. If my findings are inconclusive I will repeat the test as necessary . No effort is too great in the search for knowledge.

I'm no math genius but last I checked 2009 minus 2015 equals 6 years.
What's wrong with reviving an older thread anyway?
I enjoyed and learned from reading wilshire1412's six year old response.

Thanks... I stand corrected on the math.

Nothing at all wrong with reading a 6 year old reply and learning something from it, that's is... replying to one is kind of non-relevant considering when the OP was asking for an answer to a question posed long ago . Since the post that revived it was from a new member... was just trying to point out that it was on old thread.

45 Super 185 and Buffalo Bore 10mm 165 are very much the same.
