Default New 22a-1 review

Just bought this today. I copied and pasted this. Guys I am now officially a S&W member

22a

Same one. The barrel is a 5.5 Inch bushnell trophy 1x28. I don't really care for the paint finish S&W puts on there 22a but it is an inexpensive gun. The model I have has a polished slide and barrel and it makes the gun look and feel like a 500ish dollar gun.

I shot Clawson Bob's 22a and I was in love for the first time. The gun out-shot and out-performed the Ruger Mark III Hunter. The gun was also signicantly cheaper to purchase.

His 22a has a 7 inch barrel and as stated mine has the 5.5 inch. His is a bit more accurate overall when I shot it. Really if I want I could swap the barrels out in 2 seconds if I wanted to shoot tighter groups. I bought the gun for few reasons.

1. The gun was inexpensive and though I have money in the bank I just enjoyed shooting this gun so much that it was guilt free to buy it. Yeah other guns may be more accurate and what not but I'm not a pro nor do I do competition shooting.

2. The gun is a tack driver for what it is ESPECIALLY with the 7 inch barrel

3. The trigger pull isn't insanely light but its crisp and it feels good when I pull it

4. The gun looks good. Some people buy guns to look at some buy them to shoot and don't care if they are ugly as long as they function. I like to get a median of both worlds. I like something I can look at and say, "THAT'S NICE LOOKIN" btw the guy behind the counter really had a hard on for it. LOL

5. It doesn't need tools to strip down. HUGE PLUS! I don't like tools regardless of what it is.

Things I do not like about it.

Recoil Spacers need to be replaced so I will have to order more in the near future but I have the 2 spare ones from the factory that should last me a LONG LONG time.

The finish near the top of the rail is the same black paint they use on the other models but its hardly noticable and I am THE WORLDS BIGGEST PAIN IN THE *** when it comes to being anal about stuff. I like near perfection whether it be my work or a purchase. For the price point I can't be angry the finish isn't horrid its just not Beretta quality.

The magazine release is in the front of the grip. Not a big deal would be nice if it was in the traditional spot but its not a self defense weapon its a hole punching man toy.

I had a few stove pipes but that's due to the bulk ammo CCI standard velocity. they run 1070ft per second I believe and the CCI Mini-mags are like 1230ISH. I did not have a failure with the Mini-mags but I think as the gun breaks in the slide will loosen and the gun will eat anything. Say worst comes to worst and I buy bulk CCI or federal's and I get a stove pipe on occasion BIG DEAL the bullets are dirt cheap. Like I said I feel pretty good about the gun breaking in. I only had a few stove pipes out of 300 rounds.

The gun is just a sweet bargain gun.

Technically I shouldn't have bought this till 2010 because I bought my CX4 in January of 2009 so its isn't a FULL year but its the last one they had in stock and I wanted it. I ended up buying the display gun and I yelled at the manager and told him I demanded a discounted range price for buying a gun that was a display. He said its only been there for 1 week and I believe him because they do sell fast. SO I wil give him the benifit of the doubt but I told him this is 2000 FRICKING DOLLARS I have spent in less than 12 months. I told him I am not happy with his terms so he told me that he would give me the range fee reduced. Whatever I guess I am just lucky to have picked this up.

The cheetah they have upstairs is so nice. I wanted to buy that sucker, will wait till next year. My next gun is going to be another Beretta. I simply can't pin point why I love the cheetah but it feels amazing in my hands and just looks like a quality and feels like a quality firearm which I am sure it is. That will be my next purchase.

I need to yell at Bushnell the screws they use are cheap and maybe its the allen key but I want a couple replacement screws to hold the clamps on the weaver rail. I will use a nice set of allen keys and see if I can tighten the screws down and just hold the screws as backup's.

I think I've provided a nice no holding back reviews. I expect you guys to review the same as I do for future guns. I hate reviews that are like "OH MY GOSH MY GUN IS PERFECT" no gun is perfect..... maybe the billennium. That gun is metal forged into sex, that's wrapped in CF grips.

I definitely recommend this gun to people looking for a inexpensive .22.

BOB If you read this the Two-Tone gun that I have has a super soft magazine release. If you remember I was complaining that the magazine releases are hard to press when I looked at the other 4-5 22a guns. This gun is like butter just like yours. I must have gotten a nice one or so I hope.

Be on the look out for that too. Some of the 22a's have these really hard nasty feeling magazine release buttons.

The slide on my has incredible grip too I should add. It's almost sharp but it isn't. Bob you will see it in due time my friend.

Thanks for reading folks.

Some pics I'd like to share.

Got her home yesterday. Didn't have time to clean her up, too busy doing snow removal and basically everyone in my families house, and I had to plow a parking lot. Wasn't a fun night for me in the least. I was tempted to pick it up today after work but I just wanted to get it over with.

By the by, they had a friggin 87 Target model in. It was brand new. First time I've seen one in brand new. I'm was excited about that but I am looking for the 87 Non-Target model. That one is going to be a winner.

Nice! I'm a big fan of the 22A. I don't think there's a better bang-for-the-buck. I just got a Centerpoint red dot for mine last night, can't wait to try it out
