anyone have the Doug Koenig 1911
I am looking into buying a new 1911 and am looking at a kimber gold cup or the DK1911 and would like to know if anyone has one and thier impression of the pistol.
The DK1911 is 300 cheaper than the kimber and to me they both feel about the same but they wont let me shoot them to try them out before I buy.

I have the DK1911, bought it late last year. I have only shot it about 4 times/400 rounds, but I really like the way it shoots and handles.
Some folks don't like the flat trigger face, I think it sets itself apart and there is negligible feel to it in my view.
I shoot a low velocity target reload through mine so I had to replace the factory recoil spring with a lighter one. Everything is fine. No malfunctions, FTE's, FTF's.
I also bought some McCormick magazines for it, they function well too.
Fit and finish is good, I like the two-tone and the stocks that came with it really set the gun off, they have a dark red tinge to them. I put a set of non-checkered, plastic grips on it and don't care for them too much so I switched back to factory.
Accuracy is excellent!

I don't have a DK 1911, but wish I did I hear only good things about them.
I do own a Kimber and am in love with it.
Kimber is a good shooter with a clean crisp trigger pull and very well made.
I've got about 600 to 700 rounds through it w/o one problem of any kind.
Oh, as you can see I added a Crimson Trace Laser Grip to it and like the CT too.

I have a DK1911, and a Kimber Supermatch. I had a Kimber CDP. Both are nice, but the Kimber's safety is quite a bit smoother. If you need a magwell it costs a bit to add to the Kimber, if that model does not have it. I have around 7000 rounds through my DK, and it shows very little wear. People are suprised it is an S&W. I use Wilson Combat magazines.

There is a PC DK in .38 Super and then a .45DK in the regular 1911s. I assume we are talking about the .45?
Anyway, I've been looking also, and wonder what the difference is in the Pro Series .45, aside from the Novak sights (which are a big plus for me) compared to the .45 DK? There is nobody within 4 hours that has either of them.

I went to a gun shop with the intention of buying a DK 1911. After handling the pistol, listening to the comments of the sales rep and looking at other 1911’s, I wound up buying a Kimber Super Match. The action of the DK was not as smooth and the Kimber, and the Kimber slide seemed bigger and easier to manipulate. Kimber has an internal extractor while the DK is external, personal preference in a 1911. They are both reverse two tones, and next the Kimber the DK looked a little showy to me.

I have no complaints about my DK. And the mags are good quality.
It could use a lighter trigger pull....but that is not a complaint...just my preference.
I have a Kimber conversion for it. 2 pistols in 1. Consider a conversion if 45's get worse in $$$ or availability.

I have one of the first ones out. Absolutely love the trigger pull.

I would opt for the S&W 1911 since a number of fellow shoters have experienced some problems with Kimbers. Personally I own a S&W 945, SA 1911 Trophy Match, STI Trojan and a Colt National Match from the 1960's. My next 1911 will be the S&W.

I have the Pro series 1911, had it for about a year now. I simply went down to the gun store/range and asked if they could get me one. It took them about 2 weeks to find one for me. It is not likely you will find one just lying in the case.

How has the gun performed over the last year? Anything especially good or bad? I'm wanting a full size .45 to give a workout in IDPA/CDP and USPSA single stack. My only premium .45 now is a Colt custom shop Combat Commander.

I have had no problems with it. It runs smooth all the way around. I did send it back to S&W because I felt the trigger pull was to heavy for a premium style 1911. They lowered the pull weight to 4 lbs., they paid shipping both ways, had it back in only 6 days.

Once you decide on which one you might want to order it from Budsgunshop.com they usually have them instock. Distributors sometimes will save premium guns for high volume dealers.

I purchased a 1911DK on this forum earlier this past summer. It's my favorite, I shot it almost exclusively. You won't be disappointed.

I never shot a Kimber, but after my wife and I tried my friend's S&W 1911 DK......we'll be getting one soon. Smooth, accurate, reliable, great pistol.
