Default Replacing mag release on model 908

Does anyone know if the mag release on a 908 can be replaced with a metal release? If so where can I find the parts and how do I replace it? Thanks in advance.

Inquiring minds think alike. Any reasonably knowledgeable individuals out there who can answer this?

I've never replaced one but it would seem the 3913 set would work unless the frame is machined different. You would need the catch, nut, spring and plunger as they list different part numbers for all four parts. S&W, Brownells and Midway should all have the parts available, looks like about $25 + shipping.

The 3913 will not work, the design/frames are different. IMO someone is missing the boat by not offering these as an upgrade, are you listening Cylinder and Slide? I have a 908 out of action now because it won't lock a mag in place high enough to disengage the mag disconnect.

You can remove the magazine disconnect, if the pistol still feeds from the magazine properly. That might put it back in service.

It's located under the rear sight. I have done it, but it's been a long time since I have done it.

You might ask on the gunsmithing forum, here. My recollection is that it wasn't difficult at all. I just don't want to give you any bad advice.

Somebody there may be to give you better advice than I can.

Good luck.

If the mag is that low it likely won't feed either, even if you take out the magazine safety.

The issue is that the mag catch on these guns is plastic, and it wears.

You can not instal a 3913 mag catch without machining the frame of the gun so that it matches a 3913 cut for this part.

As far as the mag not seating properly,,, I have found the lifetime warranty that S&W offers is very good. Call the 1-800 number and they'll square you away.
