The local pawn shop has a 2206 for sale with the box and the price is $350.. A friend of mine is looking for a .2 target gun and I can't help him. I do not own one and have never shot one of this Smith's. Somebody here knows about them and the prices(and values) of them. Thanks for the help. He has shot my Browning Buckmark pistols and likes them.

Price depends on condition of gun and where you are located. $350 would be high in OK for a 2206 pistol in average used condition.

I recently shot my 2206 Target 6", accurate and worked perfectly. I agree that $350 for one is a bit high, unless there has been something going on in the used gun market recently of which I am not aware. Hope this is helpful.

I have a 4.5" 2206 that I have put 1000's of rounds thru since the early 90's, and have been well pleased with it. I have seen a couple with box and papers go for around $400 lately on the auction sites, so if it is in excellent condition $350 might not be out of line IMO. By the way, due to the all stainless construction and weight, etc., it makes a pretty good companion shooter for the 3rd Generation S&W's.

IMHO, I think the 2206 target version was the best sub mod 41 .22 pistol S&W has ever made. The weight and ballance is WAY better than the. alloy 622/422 flavor. Mine shot very accuratly. Downside is that mags were expensive and accessories hard to find. $350 is what I paid for mine in like new condition. That said, I eventually sold it in favor of another ruger MK II target pistol. If you want a .22 target pistol in that price range, Ruger rules the roost. They are by far teh most common sub $500 pistol on all the bullseye / gallery leagues I've been involved in. Very accurate and friendly plus accessories, grips, mags, sights, holsters, trigger kits.... are all readily available for short $.

I picked up a 2206 with 4.5" barrel this summer for $200, and it is a pretty darn fun gun to shoot especially with the weight and size very comparable to my 5906. The one thing I dislike on it is having no decocker. You have to try to feed an empty shell into the chamber and pull the trigger on it. Reason for the empty shell is that these guns are apparently prone to breaking firing-pins if dry fired. Do think $350 is in the higher end of the price spectrum and think $300 would be a more accurate price for the one you described.

Price of something is all in how you look at it and if you are happy with the gun. If you have $600 in a gun that you don't like your are never going to be happy. I have a ton of money in the NIB 2206 below. Sure would like to hve a nice set of woods for the gun however, but first I have to figure out how to get the grips off. Removing the screws did not let the grips come off, maybe I'll try again tomorrow. No the speed loader was to prop up the gun.

To remove the grips, take out the screws, then twist the grips clockwise or counter clockwise. I believe the center of the grips have a plastic piece that snaps into a hole in the frame. They will pop right off after you remove screws.

I got one grip to turn clockwise a little but it would not lift off or rotate further. I will try again tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for the info though.

I have a S&W 422 with wood grips. I am looking for grips in the Black plastic or wood to replace these for everyday shooting. Can some one suggst a location where I can get them without paying though the nose?

I bought 2 pair @ $11 each about 2 years ago at Numrich. Here's what gun looks like now. Found second one about two years ago also.

The 350 is a tad high, but not unreasonable if it's in excellent condition. The 622/2206 series was an excellent design. Very very accurate, reliable and well balanced. Plus, they are excellent suppressor hosts for anyone wanting to go that route.

I'm betting they picked it up for about $100-150....I'd offer them $250 cash and maybe barter up to $300...what is there to lose.

I have a set of Pachmayr wrap-around grips for sale in the Accessories/parts section,with pic's.

I know this is an old thread, but are any of the grips still available?

I saw some grips for wood grips for the 422 on EBAY today.

Over the years I've put 15,000 rounds through a 2206, aimed rounds from a moving platform, at slow moving targets. Smooth action and dependable.

Give current travel restrictions, I found myself in a foreign port without a sidearm. A Taurus .22 was the only weapon available in this rural area so I purchased it. Upon test firing it jammed, stove piped and misfired. I changed ammo and it did the same, then added a new trick. With much less than 50 rounds expended from this new weapon, a small triangle of broken metal fell out of the Taurus and then the slide with the barrel fell off onto the deck.

(I know! Serves me right. Now stop laughing!

I wrote to Taurus. Told them I'd rather have a 10 inch cast iron skillet to defend myself than their .22.

The S&W 2206 is an excellent weapon. If you have one, hang on to it.
