Market Research: Who's interested in custom grips for 22A & 422/622/2206/2213/2214?
****Update 1/14/10:
Looked at a 22A today and its a little more complicated but doable. Won't be as cheap as a 422 and family since its wrap around but if there is enough interested we'll see what we can do. Let me know.
*****
A buddy and I have been tossing around the idea of making some custom grips for our guns and were wondering if the lack of pretty much any option for these models might warrant a little side business. Probably a small niche market and the pipeline would fill in short order, but it might be worth the trouble to make a small run. I have no examples to show at the moment, but thought I'd go ahead and feel you guys out. Material options would probably be traditional stuff like walnut, laminates, carbon fiber, micarta, etc. but we might try aluminum as well. Stippling is easy enough, but neither of us is currently set up for checkering so that is an uncertain one at the moment. Any interest?

If you expanded into doing some for the 22-a I would be interested. No grip options out there for it either.

Depending on pricing, I'd be interested in a set for the 2206.
Hope you posted on the RimfireCentral forum too.

Yeah, Drew beat me to it. Would love to see a nice set of wood grips available for my 22A. These are very popular and it's hard to belive no one has jumped on the chance to get these to the market. Thanks, Shoo

Hadn't thought about the 22A since I don't own one. Didn't realize there were slim options for that one as well...kind of surprised since its current production.
Haven't posted on rimfirecentral yet...don't frequent there, but that's a good idea. Thanks.

Bump to the top. We'll consider 22A grips as well. Let me know who's interested in those.

Not sure if it is good idea for your market research, but you might try adding a poll to this thread or starting a new thread to see interest. Just a suggestion.
Would be interested in wood set for 2206.

I already said I would be interested in 22a but let me quantify that to say I would be interested as long as they aren't to pricey, don't effect your ability to insert a magazine like the factory wood grips do, and that they are ambidextrious as I am left handed.
If you can come up with a possible price I can tell you for sure if I would be interested but judging from the number of new people that have come on here recently asking for grip options for the 22a I would say it would be worth your time.

I'm in for the 422 style. If they are like the model 41 that would be great.

Hint: Expand your focus to include mod 41's and you'd double your market.

Herretts makes a grip called the Trainer Flat Housing that would be beautiful on a Model 22A. I called but they advised that they don't make grips for this model. I would buy a similar set tomorrow.

22A is not too expensive.
I'd like to try something different for my 22A. Wood or better black (rubber, plastic?). As far as price, around $50 I'm good. If we get close to $100 I'm not. Hope you do (did?) go ahead with this for the 22A, I read and talk to a lot of people not that happy with stock grip, and I've found no options (other the SW wood).
[EDIT] Above title should read "22A IF not too expensive", :-(

Project is moving slow gentlemen, but not forgotten. Working on a CNC operation to crank these (and other models hopefully) out at a reasonable price. Hope to have some examples soon.

I just came across this post while looking for info about a possible source of replacement stocks for a friend's 422 and my own 2213. Any progress on these?

Now really need 22A Grips
Yesterday, in the HOT sun, my SW 22A-1's stock rubber/plastic(polymer?) grip delaminated, totally. SW is sending me new ones (which I told then they did not need to do for free, as it must be a cleaning fluid I use, or .. but they insist, I always get great support from them ).
Anyway, reminded me of this thread. I'm still looking for 22A-1 grips, nicer than stock. Wood or metal would be my preference. I'm hoping for less than $100, but will consider anything.
Thanks, Chris

Hi;
I bought some factory grips from Altamont Co. They had some Bubinga wood and Silver black wood a Walnut w/ the S&W Logo on them.

Checkered wood grips for 2213? Yes, please. The OEM grips are very unimpressive for this very nice pistol.

Yes to Custom Grips
First, to answer ShoeShooter's question about the interchangeability between the M-422, M-622 & the M-2206, yes they are. I would also be interested in a set if the price is within affordable guidelines!

For lack of custom grips was the main reason I sold my 22-A and the fact a M41 came into my hands as well at the same time. I already had a 46 which I really like so I knew I would be very Happy with the stepup of course.

A couple years since the last post. Anyone heard if the 422 series replacement grips ever happened? I'd like something in wood for a 2206.
