Default Recoil spacers for 22A-1

Where can these be easily located?

I looked on S&W's site they do not have them or at least I haven't found them.

I don't actually need them but they would be nice to have on hand seeing that this gun is getting fed like "FAT PRINCESS" LOL

I would also like to purchase a new spring if that can be located too just in case. It's better to have and not need than to need and not have.

Thanks for the help.

-Mike

This past August, I called Smith & Wesson Customer Support (1-800-331-0852) to ask about purchasing a few of the recoil spacers since I couldn't find any locally. They sent me three of them for free!

Give them a call and see what they say. I have had very good experiences with S&W support.

I bought springs from S&W and they sent along the recoil spacers free. You can also find them at Brownells and Gun Parts.

Good thinking on your part to get back up spacers. Once I spent a couple of hours looking for the darn thing. While cleaning my 22A I forgot to hold my hand over the spring and spacer and out they popped. The spring went one way and the spacer went the other. I finally found the spacer up under a little corner shelf stand. It had to pop over my should to get there.
I had some break down problems with my 22A and had to send it to S & W service. I asked for extra spacers and they sent me several at no cost.
My 22A works like clock work now but it took a little break in time. A friend of mine bought a Sig 22 Mesquito for his wife which is very tempermental. It will only eat CCI high vel. ammo.My cheap little 22A will eat anything.

The parts list is on the S&W site, but hard to find. Go to Quick Links, in the bar on the left side. Click the down arrow next to Choose an Item, then choose Parts List.
I was just getting ready to order a half dozen of the spacers, plus a spare recoil spring.
My 22A has always worked well, except for certain types of cheap ammo. And, that's not the guns fault, I think. About 5% of the Remington bulk pack just won't fire. I can take them out, put them in my old bolt action rifle, and they still don't fire, like they have no primer material or something.
I don't much like the idea of the spacers, though. After about 500 rounds they are just beat flat.

if your shooting Std Velocity ammo you don't even need the buffer. There are several over there that have worn out the spacer and shoot on with the SV ammo. Several off and on have mentioned several thousand rounds and on guys that tracks that info for his guns for whatever reason stated about 10,000 rounds (I don't remember exact amount) with only recoil spring having been replaced. The 422, 622, 2206 and 41 don't have the buffers and those guys shooting in match's shoot several thousand rounds a year.

S&W will send you some for free if you ask. I lost the first one I had on my first disassembly............zing, off into space, so I got a couple of extras. I have probably 1500 rounds of Federal bulk pack on the current one. They seem to compress to a certain point and then no further.

I am a brand new owner of a 22a-1 5.5" barrel and love it!!! it shoots great I did have a few miss fires but that is expected with any 22 amo. I shot only 100 rounds of Winchester Super X 40 grain 1300 fps. I got it home to clean and noticed the Recoil spacer was 1/2 way flattened.
Hmmm? I called S&W at (1-800-331-0852) there sending me 10 for free. I would like to know should I use a different amo? is this normal where and tear The person I talk to (DAVID) sad it should last between 600 & 1000 rounds before it cracks flattened was ok but never the less he still sending me 10 Thank you S&W

If you're chewing them up in 500rds or so I'd replace the recoil spring also.

Thumbs down

Numerich also sells these plastic pads for $2.25, and the springs for $2.80.
I didn't think to ask the dealer I bought my 22a from if it had any plastic parts that needed to be replaced ever so often. I plan on my grandson getting my guns when the time comes. How long do you reckon they'll make these plastic parts? I wonder if Model 12's had plastic parts in them , if they would still be around. I think it is really poor of them to put plastic parts in them, that you know will need replacing. Going to sell mine the first chance I get.Even tho it shoots straight and really good with a new plastic pad.

It's not like the gun is made of cheap plastic. My
22A shoots great and has a great trigger. In fact it shoots better than some of my friends 22 pistols that cost a lot more and theirs will only shoot select types of ammo. My 22A will eat anything I feed it. The only reason to have back up plastic spacers is if you shoot it a hell of a lot or if you let the spring shoot it across the room and can't find it (that happened to me). S & W will send you new spacers for free (they did for me), just call or email them.
All that said there are 22 pistols with better ergonomics than the 22A but not much or any better at shooting.

Yes , I too called Smith and Wesson and they sent me six recoil pads for free. I bought another 14 for $.57 a piece. The gun does shoot any shells I put in it, and it is easy to take apart to clean. After shooting it a while at the range with others, I see that other more expensive pistols don't go off all the time and they don't have a plastic pad to change to make them shoot again like a new gun. This amount of pads should last me a long time. I put a 50mm red dot on it and it shoots pretty well.

I have well over 8000 rounds thru mine at the moment and am still useing the original white spacer. Its starting to look very beat up of course but still holding up well enough to shoot every week. I also will call S&W service to see if I can get some for free as well. Thats the best price of course and we all deserve it for sure. I have gone thru one spring which lasted around 6000 rounds. This gun still shoots very well and is my regular backup gun at this time for the range. I have a 46 as well.

Just purchased a S&W 22A What and how did you put the red dot? Did you lose regular sight by doing so?

I did get around to calling S@W for the spacers for my old 22A. Again because we are in Canada they would not ship us any free ones at all. They wanted payment in full in advance as well. I sold the gun and got a 1958 M41 to go along with my M46. No more white tabs for me. Happiness is owning a M41 and a M46 as well. What more could we want "Lots of course".

I was NOT Happy at the time over this issue as I knew others on here were getting them for Free but not in Canada at that time. Lets hope they finally smartened up as we are paying customers as well. Service on a new gun has never been that great over here from Smith.
