Default Suggestions for removing rust?

There are some very small spots of rust on the slide of the 6906 I picked up last weekend, just behind the front sight. Does anyone have any suggestions on a rust removal technique and how I can be sure it doesn't come back?

On Collecting and Shooting the Military Surplus Rifle (2006) - Surplusrifle.com they discuss an electrolysis method of removing rust without disturbing the unrusted finish of the rest of the firearm.
