S&W 559
I have a chance to buy a 559, but I don't know anything about them. Were there any problems with this model. Are they about the same as a 59. Thanks for your help. Don

No problems with them. Some may even consider them an upgrade of the 1st gen 59s. I like the added safety of the firing pin safety. The 59 did not have that.
The major difference is that the 559 is all steel (frame and slide) so it is heavier than the 59 (and 459) which had an alloy frame.

Just solid steel.
I bought my 559 in 1982.
Here are a few pics of my 559 with different grips.

I think they didn't sell, that's all. S&W's lineup at the time was 400 series-aluminum frame, 500 series-blued steel frame, 600 series. stainless steel. Blued steel guns were going out of fashion then.

The 500 series also came in all steel nickle plated, I have a 559 in nickle.
