Model 41 ? about sights
I am a senior and recently bought my second (should have never got rid of first one) 41 a 5 1/2 hb 1988 vintage. It shoots great but short of drilling and tapping it for full length weaver is there any other options for more visible sights for these old eyes.
It shoots 3" groups at 15 yards off hand shooting quick. My problem is I have trouble seeing the sights. I did put white paint on front sight which helped. It has the narrow rear blade.
The fiber optic sights work well for me on my other pistols but they are not in same league as 41 for accuracy. thanks jim

Get a second barrel for it.
A newer on that is drilled and tapped for a scope mount from the factory.
My 7 3/8" with the comp has the factory iron sights on it while my 5 1/2" barrel has a red dot optic sight

Tired eyes........
At 87 I had a similar problem. Try using weak reading glasses that are just strong enough to see a sharp front sight while seeing a fuzzy bullseye. There is also an adjustable peep sight that attaches to your regular glasses. Merit? A small peep hole will sharpen your sight picture. Hope this helps.

Cataract surgery, new glasses and the old Merit disc all work well. Do your best to have fun with it and share what you learn.
Good Luck

I got the old eyes syndrome too. A Burris Fast Fire , I or II , can be mounted on a model 41 easily, newer barrels are drilled and tapped , older barrels can be . I bought a Ruger MKII with a Millet SP-1 installed a few years ago, had never shot a handgun with a red dot sight , shooting with it was a revelation....I could shoot and actually hit things again! It is rather bulky though . It has a 1 inch tube like a small scope.
The Burris Fast Fire is so compact and clean looking when mounted on a model 41 and as soon as I get some extra $$$$ , one is going on my model 41.

I have used both of the above methods, and they both work. Although I use +2 reading glasses, I found +1.25 ideal for handgun shooting. The target is a bit fuzzy, but the sights are clear. Also, the +1.25 allows me to walk around and change targets. Since I need to wear safety glasses at the range, I found some on Amazon that are +1.25 (and other powers) over the ENTIRE lens area for $16.. Previously, I tried the bi-focal type, but the + area is on the bottom, so you are shooting with your head cocked back.
The peep sight method (about $24.) gives you both a clear sight and target, but you are looking through a tiny hole. Bright lighting conditions work best...low light, not as good. Also, it is best to take your glasses off to walk around.
Scope-wise, a Ultra Dot works fine on my model 41, but had I known about the glasses, I'd have opted to save the money. I use the glasses for my 617 and 686.

Sights
There is a rear sight mount that mounts into the dovetail of the 5 1/2 Model 41 HB. This eliminates the need of buying a new barrel and mounting hardware. This mount runs $75.00, and if you get a nice optic rear sight like the Burris fast fire or ultradot LT you will have spent as much as you would just buying a new barrel that is tapped for a scope mount. Plus the fore mentioned optic's are nice and low to the barrel's bore.

New to the site
I am new to the site and can not find how to start a thread. So please excuse my hi jacking this thread.
I have purchased a Model 41 Ser. TBW 2815. I would like to find the Mfg. Date and configuration if I can.
The pistol has a dovetail for scope or red dot. I would like to find out if dovetail was factory.

New to the forum
I appreciate the info Gentlemen.
Double checked the serial number and it is TBW2815. found on the frame.
Dovetail is grooves cut into the top of the slide to accommodate a clamp on scope ring. Many early .22 rifles had dovetail cut machined into the top of receiver prior to drilling and tapping. I Thank You for your help. Bill
