I had a S&W 4006, which is the traditional DA/SA with slide mounted decocking safety.
I have a P-229 in 40 cal, too.
The S&W had a much nicer DA trigger, than the Sig. The Sig has a nicer SA trigger.
And, I found the Sig to be significantly more accurate than the 4006, using the same ammunition.
I was very disappointed in the accuracy of the 4006; groups were about double the size as I was getting from my 5906.
I worked on my hand loads for a long time, but couldn't get the accuracy I was hoping for.
I may have just gotten a 'lemon' as I didn't send it back to S&W. I inspected the barrel very closely, and it looked fine to me.
I finally traded it away.
YMMV.
