Best ammo for model 22A-1?
I just picked up a 22A-1 and since 22's are sometimes picky about what they like, can anyone with experience tell me what this model likes to shoot.
Thanks

I have shot Winchester 333, CCI minimag, and Federal Spitfire (Gander Mountain brand) through mine with very few issues. The feed ramp is quite rough on mine - it seems to be getting better as it breaks in ... getting tempted to break out the dremel and polish that baby up.
I think the rule of thumb is stay away from anything Remington and use copper washed bullets.

Mine likes the plated/coated bullets best. It eats but chokes on lead hollow points sometimes.

Mine has been fed the following:
Remington Thunderbolts - No problems whatsoever
Federal Champions - No problems slightly more accurate than thunderbolts
Winchester 555 hollow points - jams up occasionally so no longer fed it these
My 22a is my second least picky .22 I own after my Marlin 60 rifle that eats everything.

In more than ten years and something north of 20k rounds I have yet to find ANY 22lr's that my 22A won't eat without complaint. Better quality rounds just equate to tighter groups but even the 550 round bricks from Wally world give very good results.

The 2206 I got my son likes CCI Mini-mags, kind of on the pricey side, have had bad results with these unplated bullets. When it warms up I'll try out a 100pack of Winchester RN, I picked up a couple months ago. Hoping to pick up a pack of bulk Federal Auto-match at Wally World.

Good luck with that. I literally pull over at every Walmart I drive by and go in to find they don't have any.
Went shooting today, had some CCI Minimag RN, Federal Spitfire, and Federal Gameshock RN. Between the 22A and the 15-22, we went through some 400 rds. Had ONE feed issue in the 15-22, and I think that was related to how I loaded the magazine. Had a couple "no bang" - reset the trigger and hit it again and they fired.
MUCH better than my experience with Winchester 333.

S&W 22a lr ammo.
I use the remington JHP in the 225 count bulk box. No misfires yet. Have shot three boxes so far.

Mine seems to like all the cheap stuff except Remington thunderbolts and the other cheap Remington. It does however fire Remington mil-surp from the 90's with zero issues. I had problems when I first bought it and found out it was the feed ramp. They polished it and ever since it has been a beautiful pistol. I also have a cheap Tru-Glo reflex sight on it and it is a tack driver!

I purchased a 22A last year. only used a few times with terrible results. Multiple failure to fires. Sent to S&W for evaluation. ammo was Winchester M22. When I get it back I will try cci and other ammo. Accuracy good. Good luck!

I've only used copper-plated bullet ammo in mine but it has been flawless. It seems to prefer 40-grain CCI MiniMags best.

I would suggest staying with anything made by CCI for anything made by S&W. Almost mandatory on our N41's and M46's. Especially in the SV version of it.

Model 22A ammo
As stated above I had horrible results with Winchester 22lr in Model 22A. Sent back to S&W. They replaced barrel and had slightly better results, still poor. Tried CCI 22lr SV mini mag as I planned and had excellent results both in accuracy and performance. No failure to fire, rapid fire with no jams. S&W customer service great and I now love this pistol.
