Default 4043

Summit has some 4043 for less than 300.00. What do you guys think I already have a nice 4046.

Not a bad price that's for sure, would be 10oz lighter than your 4046. Better for carry, worst for recoil, and would cost more to refinish the frame if you ever wanted to.

Default Brother 4003

Sounds like a good price, I have a 4003, same gun with DA/SA trigger.
It is very lightweight, almost the same as a modern plastic gun.
IMO it would carry easier and still have the same DAO only trigger as your 4046. All your same holsters will fit. The alloy frame should not wear out if you keep a good recoil spring on it. The finish on the gun will show some holster wear sooner due to the aluminum frame. Over all that should be a good buy if you need a cousin smithy for your 4046.

Why not complete the series. 4003,4043,4006 & the compacts 4013,4053. The third generation S&W are relatively inexpensive, very reliable, and dont feel like tuperware in your hand.

No room in the safe and funds availability. Believe me, I have many other S&W autoloaders. Two 45ACP's, three 10 series, the aforementioned 4046, my very first handgun, 5906 and many others that have passed through my hands. You could take this to another level and get one of each in every caliber. Now that would be a nice collection.

I have both 4043 and 4046. The 4043 police trade in is a little more roughed up and spends most of its time in the vehicle. I keep the 4046 in the house. If the size is not an issue, I carry the 4043 in place of my CS40 since I am a little more confident with it.
Three hundred sounds like a fair price for one.

The only difference in the 4043 and 4046 being the frame material, correct?

Correct. Aluminum alloy -vs- stainless steel, and about 10 oz. in weight.

I bought the last 4046 from Chestnut Ridge Supply. Summit still has a few 4043's left for 275.00, I believe.

I check Summit occasionally and saw them there at a good price. I really have no use or interest in any .40 but was tempted just because of the price. (3rd gens are a disease!)

Jim, you have contradicted yourself by simply making that statement. Go ahead a buy one and get it over with . . . no sense in denying it. :-)
Seriously, I have a fetish for these 3rd gen LE guns. They look cool, they have a history and they perform well. Not only that, but they are cheap. 40 cal' ammo is relatively cheap and in very good supply as well.
FYI- Chestnut Ridge supply has used S&W mags for $19. They are $25 on clearance at Midway USA, which is another good deal.
