Default Traded into a 4586 *New Pic - 4566 & 4586*

I'd had a stainless Springfield G.I. in the Classifieds forever so today I decided to take a trip to the local purveyor and bring it along.

I caught sight of what appeared to be a really nice 4586 with night sights in the case so I asked to look at it. Sure enough, the tag said used but I couldn't see any wear at all. In previous discussions with the dealer, he knows I like DAOs and I know he doesn't as they don't sell well so I brought in my Springfield to see what he'd do on a trade.

The tag on the 4586 was $525 and he traded straight across, my pistol with (1) magazine for his with (1) magazine. I was in disbelief but am very pleased.

I've already changed the straight backstrap grips to curved and can't wait to get to the range. That's not wear but some type of schmutz on the dustcover and bottom of the slide that I missed prior to taking the photo. I took it apart when I got home and it appears to never have been fired as the inside was immaculate.

Thanks for reading and any comments are appreciated,
Scott

I have a 4586 that I got a few months ago and I can tell you it shoots really nice. I installed a new straight backstrap grip and recoil spring, as mine was a LE trade. Next is going to be to send the slide to Trijicon to have the sights relamped. Go to the range and enjoy no malfunctions and light recoil!

I got no box or papers with mine. I got a very good deal on it, so I am not complaining. I snagged an extra mag' at Midway for $25 on sale, too :-)

You made a good trade. 3rd gen semi-autos are great pistols that just work. It looks to be in great shape, I'm sure you will enjoy your new 45.

Congrats. I have one as well.
You might want to try a Wolff 17lb hammer spring, or even a 16lb spring. It really lightens up the trigger pull and the gun still fires every time.
I also have the aluminum version, the 4583 TSW.

One of the best .45 autos ever made IMO! I think you will be pleased.

I made it to the range yesterday and took my new 4586 along. I ran 50 rounds of Magtech through it usually running two mags at a crack before retaping my target. Anyone who said this would be an accurate pistol wasn't kidding, I had numerous instances when I had to look for subsequent shots only to find that I'd shot through the hole created by the previous shot. In addition, when that didn't happen the shots all clustered together, usually all touching.

I really like this new addition. I'm looking forward to trying one of the lighter mainsprings mentioned by andy. The dealer I traded with stated that he got it from Lew Horton's and I can't find a listing for the product code. The box also indicates it's **SPECIAL**. With the night sights dated '95, I'm wondering if night sights wouldn't have classified it as **SPECIAL** back in those days, does anyone know if that would likely be the case?

One more pic with its Melonite 4566 cousin before the 4566 moves on to its new owner:

Thanks again for looking.

I have a 4586 and it is nice. Started dealing with 45's in 1969 drafted US Army Inf. Colt a great weapon. If the two were put side by side I would pick the 1911 because of the record. I think they are close, but the Colt has its tried and true record.
Info please guys I am looking to put a laser on the 4586 but I can't locate a darn thing. Tried for a grip and Guide Rod. But is the 4566 and 4536 the same and one from that Gun would fit?

And the 1911 is thinner.
