45 auto labeled chief special
Hello all,
have a question. a co-worker kind of new to handguns told me he bought a S&W .45 auto, six+one. He said it was a chief special and that it was engraved on the gun. Im a little perplexed, I have a chiefs special it's a revolver. I was under the asumption that all chief specials were revolvers. I didnt know S&W made a chief special in .45 auto. Can anyone enlighten me ? Thanks Roch

Another member can probably give you a more accurate history, but several years ago, S&W produced a new "Chief Special" as a small semi-auto. I know it came in 9 and 45, maybe also in 40. I think it was an attempt to cash in on CCW customers, as well as off-duty cops, detectives, and police admins. I've heard good things about them, but I don't think sales were what S&W hoped for.

Just like the M&P moniker, S&W has used the Chief's Special name on revolvers (originally), and on semiautos. A friend has a .45 Chief's, and it is a neat little gun, but I still prefer my two Glock 36s.

9mm
I have a "Chiefs Special" in 9mm. It's a lot like the 3913 auto, only mine is a tad smaller. Mine is also a value series gun with some minor plastic parts. I find it a great CCW, it hides very well. I am pretty sure that mine is a 7+1 capacity. I believe they come in .45 and .40 as well.

As posted above, they were made in 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45acp.
They came in both blue finish and stainless finish.
Nice little carry autos, lightweight and small.

The Chief Special Semi-Auto Series are FANTASTIC firearms. I own a CS40 AND CS45.
They are a work of art, RELIABLE, AND BACKED BY S&W LIFETIME WARRANTY!
Like many metal framed firearms, they fell out of favor due to the popularity of polymers like Glock etc.

Wow!!! I've never seen a CS w/ the regular hammer on it. I like it! Did you have S&W do that?
