Default THIRD GENERATION S&W

I was looking at a used holster. The owner states that it is for a 3rd generation S&W like a model 39.
I did not think that the 39 was a 3rd generation.
I am looking for a holster for my 5906, and a 659.
What holster do I need?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The model 39 is a first gen S&W , there are some holster that will fit the 39XX 3rd gen variants and the earlier generation semiautos . Just look for any that fit the 59XX series and are open bottom . I found out by chance that the earlier gen semis tend to be about a 1/4 inch longer in slide length so a closed bottom holster that fits the 59XX snugly won't work with my model 59 or 459/659

Thanks for the reply.
I was also under the impression that the 39 was a first generation.
I think this holster will work as it as an open bottom.

You are 100% correct... the M39 is a 1st generation pistol. It is also the single stack mag pistol and the holster for it will not fit the double stack mag 5906 & 659.

I like to use a Safariland 568 "custom fit" paddle holster (Model 568 Concealment Custom Fit Holster w/ Molded Paddle :: HOLSTERS.com) for my pistols, there is enough "give" where it will fit many pistols with the same general frame/slide/barrel length.

I f you don't care for a paddle, it comes with a adapter to make it a belt loop holster.

I can carry my S&W 4006 & 559, and my Glock 22, in the same model holster. I also have one that fits my 4506-1 and PC 945 pistols.

As you can see, it's also adjustable for retention.

Gunhacker - thanks for the reply. Maybe it will not work since they are double stack autos.
I will check the Safariland holster out.

Usually the single/double stack doesn't make any differance, its' all slide length and trigger guard style. You'll find some problems with square guard guns and early DAO guns most offen.
