The only rubber grips I know of are one piece made by Pachmyer which the previous owner the trimmed off the front connecting strip that I have on my 39-2 .

Back in the day, Pachmayr made a one piece wrap around grip, with a seperate backstrap insert for the Model 39 among others. (The 1911 is still produced today.)
Check Gunbroker. I found and purchased two NOS sets for my Star PD (also long discontinued) for a quite reasonable price.
They, like The Truth, are out there. Check with Scully and Muldar.....

Uncle Mike has made rubber panels for the Model 39. They work great, as I had a pair on one of my 39's.

+1 on the Uncle Mike's... I have them on my 559 and they are just about the same thickness as factory ones. I don't think they are made any more, but they are out there... I got mine new off of ebay.
