I just got a new to me 457S. In looking at the rear sight I see that there is no screw through the top of the sight like on my other guns. I think the sight is plastic. Does this sound like a standard S&W sight? What did they do to eliminate the screw?
Thanks for posting the pictures. That sight looks similar to mine. I don't mind that the sights are plastic as long as they stay in place. My sight seems to be pretty secure.
I just checked my guide rod and that is blued steel. The little piston that sticks out of the back is plastic. I wonder if that little piece was changed to plastic on all of the later 3rd generation guns.
This is correct on the Value Series. The polymer sights do not need a screw as they are made a little oversize, and fit tightly enough that a locking screw is not needed. Please note that the Glock does not use a set screw on its polymer rear sight either.
