910 vs. 915
What is the difference between the model 910 and model 915? Will a grip from a model 5904 fit the 910 or 915? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. The model 910 and 915 are the same gun. The difference is the 910 came with a 10 round magazine as per the Clinton assault weapons ban which limited the 15 round magazines to law enforcement use only. (Thank God it expired! ) Both guns are a lower cost "value version" of the 5904. There are a few minor differences such as rear sights, but most 5904 parts, including grips, will fit a 910/915. Grips from a 5903 or 5906 will also fit the 910/915. -Ed.

You'll find that the 915 is closer to the early 5904 with a straight blade rear sight and the more rounded slide. 910s' were a little more square in the slide and used some plastic small parts and sights. Grips, mags and springs are the same between them all.

The 915 was the "value" version of the 5904 and shared the same basically lines. The sights were not Novak and the overall finish was not quite as nice. But there were very good goods and an excellent value.
The 910 took it a step further. They have even less milling on the slide and plastic sights. But again, good guns and a good value.
And 59XX series mags, grips, etc. will work with either model.

On the 910, in addition to plastic sights it has plastic guide rod and magazine catch. On 915, those parts are steel.

After doing a detailed side by side comparison before buying my 915 a couple of years ago, I offer the following: - 915 - A real 3rd generation S&W Auto
- 910 - A wanabe 3rd generation S&W Auto (I mean plastic sights for goodness sake , they're not even quality plastic sights)

The 915 also has a lug on the barrel and corresponding cut in the slide for tighter lock up.
I own both the 910 and 915. The difference in workmanship between the two exceeds the use of plastic parts.
While two pistols may appear identical to the casual observer, they are not the "same".
My 915 is a well made, well finished tack driver with a finish superior to the 910.
My 910 is a decently finished training pistol for new shooters. At the asking price I see online for NIB 910's, they are no longer a "value". My 0.02 Regards 18DAI.

I have a 910s, which is a stainless/satin finish and not straight black(if you view my 1st post, you will see).
I have totally enjoyed shooting with it. Yes, it is my starter gun. Yes, it does have plastic sights and guide rod. I have upgraded the sights on mine. However, this didn't improve the shooting, I can shoot a 1" to 1.5" pattern at 20yds. but now I can do it under low light with the night sights.
As for the "value series", yes, it was a great value, i paid $400 for it and don't regret it at all. It fires flawlessly and accurately every time. Cleaning is a snap. As for the 10 rd mags, all of mine are 15's, maybe I got lucky and whoever traded it in junked the 10 rd ones long ago.
But, no matter how you look at it, the gun is only as good as the person behind it. You can have a fully tricked out 1911 or...
...with lasers and sights and scopes and even a nice comfy spot to rest your hand to aim, but if you can't keep the gun straight as you squeeze the trigger, you can't blame the gun.

My 915 that I bought NIB unfired came with plastic guide rod, that I called S&W about to complain. I got the rod free and paid for extra magazine and no S&H charge.
For some reason I was never very good with it and when I got the chance to sell for $150 profit to dealer I sent it down the road.

The 910 and the 915 are, for all practical purposes, the same gun, one being supplied with a 10 round magazine and the other with a 15 round magazine, but either magazine will work in either gun.

S&W model 910
I purchased my 910 a few weeks ago. It was a law enforcement trade in from the Israeli Police and in very nice shape.
I gave it a thorough cleaning that included the removal of all copper fouling (There was a lot of it.)
After oiling her up we went to the range. Of course this is a double action/single action center fire exposed hammer pistol.
Steel upper and aluminum lower.
After loading the magazines with 15 rounds each and charging the pistol I shot at simulataneous targets at 7 yards, 15 yards and plates to my left at 15 yards.
The pistol functioned flawlessly. No failure to fire, no failure to eject. The sights on the 910 are Heinie sights. Upgrades for the Israeli Police.
Hits were all in alignment with the sights. No adjustment needed. Dead on and accurate!
Easy to break down and clean. If you can get your hands one of these get one, they are fantastic!!!

The 910 and 915 are NOT essentially the same gun. The 915 has an additional locking lug on the barrel that the 910 does not have. The slides are milled differently, and the barrels will not interchange.

A lot of people seem to have the mistaken belief that the 910 is nothing but a 915 with a 10-round magazine, and same with the .40 caliber 411/410. Like CelticSire said, while similar there are some noticeable differences. The machining of the 910/410 is simpler, and the guide rod, mag catch, and sights are made of plastic. BTW I tried swapping the top halves just for the hell of it, and while the 915 slide did fit on the 910 frame it didn't work vice-versa due to the lack of front rails on the 910's slide.

slide compatability
Will the slide from a model 910/915 fit onto a model 59 frame? And is the model 59 barrel compatable to the model 910/915 slide?

915 slide barrel should fit a 59 frame and a 910 may also. however the 915 barrel has the ring and locks into the slide like other 3rd gens where the 910 does not.
The 59 series barrel should cross to a 915 but won't to the 910 due to the locking ring.
