Default Model 39 Questions for the experts

I just bought a m-39, its a no dash. I thought no dashes were supposed to be steel frames, yet this one is alloy? Its in the sn range of 838XX I am guessing 1967 or 68 vintage? Kinda curious...

Thanks!

Most of the M39s had alloy frames. There were only 927 steel frames made.

As snw19_357 states there were only a limited number of steel framed Mod 39's produced. These usually command a significant premium. Your guess about your 39 being made in 67 or 68 is probably correct, as my 39 no dash (616XX) was made in 1965. If you get a chance, could you post a picture of your 39?

snw19_357 and Firebird V8 are both correct.

I have a M-39 no dash in the 83XXX range about 700 or so before yours and it's alloy frame.

Thank you guys!!!! I bought this from a family friend that is trying to down size. I picked out a few other goodies too.

This gun was carried quite a bit, has some holster wear. The blue is thin on the slid but not through. It has some dings in the frame the look like speckles. Also the stocks have some wear on them. Its a shooter grade, it came with a few holsters (leather) and the second mag, when he finds it. I paid $250 for it and I think its fair all around. Do you guys think its an OK price? A local shop has a 39-2 nickle looks nice no box $395..

Heres some pics. I havent cleaned it yet, I will clean up quite a bit and look nicer!!!

$250 is a great price for that 39. Sure it has seen some use, but there is nothing wrong with honest wear on a gun. I have a NIB Mod 4040PD and one that I carry. The one that I carry has some wear, but it is my favoite gun. Anyway, you have a nice Mod 39. It should shoot nicely for you and last a long time. Enjoy your Mod 39.

The steel guns were found within 39000 range, 60000-64000, and then again 81000-82000 serial numbers..
