Model 39 info needed as well!
My wife received a Model 39 quite some time ago...and we both were pondering about any recalls the weapon may have had at some point. I kinda think this way when it comes to unnkowns and especially about weapons since my profession is in Safety.
The weapon is a SW Model 39, Nickel, 9mm auto pistol double action, with S/N 89927. We're wondering of its 'birth date' and if any recall issues exist with this weapon.
Thanks!!

What I think a fair price would be and what they are selling for today is not even close. There is a 3906 on GB that is over $850 now with a couple of days left. If you can get what you think is a fair price for that 539 get it, you don't see them come up for sale to often. How many mags come with the gun? Mag prices for these is threw the roof, $50 plus. If you don't want that 539 let me know where it's at.

Since we are asking for help, I have what I believe to be a pre model 39, Serial number 1456. How does on go about "getting it lettered" from S&W? Does anyone know what the date of manufacture would be? Thanks in advance.

Pre 39 1478 Nov-55
Check Jinks at S&W - suggest you get it lettered

Were 39s (not 39-2s) like Krez123's, nickeled all over of did they have some blued parts like nickeled 39-2s?

Model 39
Thanks for the reply. It's a great help. It was a gift to a vice admiral from the Navy Seals back in 1968, so the dates line up.

Please correct me if I'm wrong...
but I don't remember 39's in nickel being ALL nickel. They were issued with blue hammers, blue triggers, blue extractors, blue sights, and blue grip screws.
On occasion, I have seen a small few (39-2's) that the grips screws were actually nickel from the factory, but that was much later in the 39 series of production changes.
I have never seen a 39 that has a factory red ramp front sight.
They were all manufactured in blue. According to the standard catalog, five have been verified with nickel finish but issued with smooth rosewood grips and also having the blued hammer, blued extractor, blued trigger, and blued rear sight. They are in the 62220 serial number range.

I have always been fascinated with the model 39. I can remember the first two I saw in 1969. Both blue and one was the steel version. Bought the alloy. Those are great looking pistols shown here.

Model 39
picked up a model 39 like new in the box with 3 magazines. I do not think it has been fired. The blued finish is exceptional and of course I read thru the previous posts. I am guessing with serial number s/n 6969x it must be at least 40 years old if not more. Somebody will know out here.
I normally shoot(sparingly) my WWII AC41-Walther P-38 for 9mm as it is a fantastic and accurate 9mm. My old Lt. had a model 39 and I always admired it but could not afford one at that time. So now I have two 9mm that I can shoot sparingly.LOL
I am also curious if this is an alloy frame or a steel frame? It feels like steel, but I have not loaded a full mag with it yet. single stack shiny bore no scuffs on magazine. I doubt it was fired.
The fit and finish on this gun is remarkable considering how hard the temptation to shoot it must have been. I am already sweating with anticipation and have 50 rounds ready to go testing her out.
Remember guys I am older and want to make sure I get to shoot my older guns a bit before I get too old. I already quit all my bad habits and practically the only thing I do well is shoot...So don't get mad at my idea to shoot this one. I want to get my money's worth and then some.

Model 39 (not -2 but regular model 39) with factory nickel finish had very small production quantities. Anyone with knowledge comment ? Also, why do most people spell nickel as N I C K L E ?
