Default Wolf ammo in handgun?

Has anyone got any experience running wolf ammo through a M&P40c? I found a pretty good deal (I think) with 500rds for $139. I know it's steel cased but I'm not reloading and will be shooting on private property outdoors. I know it isn't the best quality, but I'm just looking to put some rounds thru this new gun. I've shot Wolf in 7.62x39 and my SKS eats it all day. Just looking for some input, thanks in advance.

Very dirty but cycles ok. For $30 more you can get winchester white box and it is much better quality, and it's brass so if you ever do decide to reload your covered. Look at a local bass pro or on line when they have it 33.99 per 100.

I have run the .40 through my Ruger P94 and 9mm through several pistols, including a Sigma 9VE. Never had problems that I recall, and I clean mine after I shoot, so a little dirtier doesn't bother me. If the steel cases don't bother you, go for it. Steel doesn't bother me and I don't reload.

I bought one box to try in my M&P40. Like Backon4, it worked but it shot very dirty. You can get much better ammo at Walmart for the same price.

Shot wolf ammo years ago in a Glock 17. For some reason, believe the laquer flake, I had a round seize up my gun. It would not go into battery nor could I get it to come out. Had to take it to my gunsmith to get the round out. Last time I used it in a good gun.

I have shot it in my 40v as well. Same thing. It fires, I just prefer less cleaning. Plus you can sell the brass (not much but it does get you a little)

I think there was a post about this a while ago.

Several years ago I too got a great deal on Wolf ammo. It was the laquer coated ammo which was ****. Now days Wolf is teflon coated which performs just fine. However, steel case ammo is hard on extractors. If you intend to shoot a lot of it, buy an extra extractor and learn how to replace it.

I shot several thousand rounds of Wolf in a 1911 after which the extractor broke. No big deal. Bought a new one. Installed and tuned it and kept shooting. But I suspect that the extractor on an M&P might be a little more difficult to replace. For me it was worth it.

No issue with my 9VE when I shot a few hundred rounds.

When the 9mm Wolf steel cased ammo was $99/M several shooters used them in their guns. I triend two boxes in my 9mm's and experienced failures - went back to reloading or purchasing the Winchester bulk packs which were selling for $12.95 at that time.

The big deal with Wolf is the lacquer. If you slow fire you should be fine. But try to be an action guy, and the chamber will heat up and melt the residue.

The AK & SKS chambers seem to be designed to not stick, cause they sure do get hot..

As mentioned,, for a couple $$ more get the white box and sell the brass..

If it works in your gun then that's great. But I've had it work in one gun and another just several hunderd serial numbers off fail to cycle. It does seem to have a "sticky chamber" problem in some guns.

Talking wolf

the coating on the case will coat some pistols chamber ..avoid rapid fire if at all possible..close tolerance on some brands of pistols causes the stove piping.then you have to clear the chamber an that is no fun job...

I shot one box of .45 wolf through my 1911 and it is extremely dirty ammo. Ok, that is not a biggie. What freaked me out is that I had a casing split. Didn't damage the gun, but that was enough for me. CCI blazer works good and it's well worth the extra coin. A nice gun deserves nice ammo.

I haven't had any issues with Wolf but then again haven't used it much in any of my handguns. Usually for cheap range ammo I go with Blazer aluminum.

It's polymer coated and the "steel" is actually an alloy that is just a malleable as brass.

I shoot both the Black Box and Military Classic 5.56, 7.62, 9mm, and 45acp through all my S&W's with no ill effects.

If your gun cycles and hits POA/POI with it, enjoy the savings !!

The fact that it smells funny and requires extra cleaning afterwards are the only issues I have noticed.
