Default Trijicon Night Sights : 4566

Sent in my slide for a replacement on the sights.Never gave it a thought on color choice. It has the all green 3 dot.So I need to let them know on color or it will be sent back as all green.Would it be a better choice of yellow rear /green front ?? or just go with all green? First time using these so I need a little help Thanks

Green stays brightest longest, go green in the middle for sure. some people like the the contrast of 2 colors. I like all green for the extra brightness

I have tried the multicolor tritium dots and did not care for them. Mainly because of what Jgordito said; the non-green tritium dots are not as bright and seem to dim much faster. Plus using a different color front sight didn't do anything to improve my speed or accuracy in low light shooting. I have heard people say that multi-color dots allows you to ensure the front sight is the center of the 3 dots. But if they cant the gun so far to the side as to improperly line up the dots (in near total darkness) and they do not realize it, they have bigger issues than multi-color dots can correct.

I say GO GREEN! I mean with your sights, not with saving the planet.

Strike3, my wife's 3914 has a green front and yellow rear dots. All of my LE guns are green all the way around but I DO like the yellow rear for a couple of reasons. First and foremost BECAUSE the front sight is green and glows brighter than the rear your eyes are automatically drawn to the front sight. That’s what we’re taught to have in focus so it only makes sense that we would want that front sight to be nice and bright and in focus while the rear sights are a little dimmer or fuzzy.

Another feature that I feel more comfortable about (since my wife is not in law enforcement and doesn't get the frequent practice) is that in a night time shooting scenario there is very little chance that she would get her sights misaligned knowing that the sight picture is Yellow, Green, Yellow. For an inexperienced shooter in a dark shooting environment it is possible that they could point their pistol so that the sights are not aligned when it is all green. Of course I would prefer her to have a solid grasp on the pistol and “point shoot”, inexperienced shooters tend to rely more on their sights because they are going for accuracy and don't rely on their instincts with point shooting.

Some people also swear by the “bar-dot” night sights while others prefer yellow or orange rear dots while MOST of us get by just fine with three green dots. I had a conversation with a neighbor this very day on how hard it is to shoot with regular iron sights in the dark. And as I explained, "Once you start carrying a pistol with night sights you'll never go without back (to regular iron sights on a defensive gun)."

I hope this helps a little.

You had to send in the entire slide? You can't order the sights and install locally?

I picked up a 4566 last month and have been looking for replacement night sights myself.

Thanks for the replies .I was just gonna have the green dots replaced and call it a day.I was peeking around with what little was left of the OG dots and thought it was a go.Then the question came up about color and picking up the center dot easier ,then it stalled right there.Makes sense about the yellow /green thing but then if your trying to rid the room from outsiders are you really concerned on allignment with 3 dots, being half awake.I asked for some input and got it.So I will stay with all green. They carry a 12 yr on the green dots for warranty and I think the same for yellow. However, they also offer an orange dot/dots and it is for 5 yr only. The cost is $54 with return ship. They said about a 2 week turn around time. And yes I am sending in the slide. As I am writing this a friend of mine calls and tells me they make an adj. rear night sight for this as well ,,,,,,,,GRRRRR Also I will add that I got it from CDNN $389 I am not a pro but looking it over ,it has little wear and tear.I cant find a speck of **** on it ,so some one cleaned it quite well.Lokks like it had little abuse.Everything appears tight. My FFL guy works on 1911's and said it looks like a very nice piece and not beat to **** at all.Oh well Im happy and if all else fails I can use it as a club, cause its built like a tank. Later......
