Default Finally!

I bought this 422 a couple of month ago. I filled a long lost hole. The first pistol I ever bought was a 422. I even used it for a carry gun as it was all I had to carry at the time. I had little money at that point and foolishly traded it in on a P89 Ruger so I could have something in a larger caliber. I should have just saved more money, but you know how the story goes.

Fast forward to recently, I saw this 422 in the local shop and decided to trade a Ruger MKII standard (I just could not get used to that barrel profile, though it was a good shooter) that was just taking up space in the safe. I was thrilled, as it was in good shape and a good price.

It didn't work. It would fire, but only when you were pushing up on the mag for all it was worth. The shop took it in and the gunsmith messed with it a bit, thought he had everything working, but when I went to pick it up, it still wasn't right. They said the heck with it and sent it back to Smith for repair. It took a little while but it seams to be OK now. I will try to get out this afternoon to test it out.

BTW, the serial number places it as a first year production.

I used to own a 422 identical to yours in every way. I loved that 422 but went stupid and traded it for a custom Browning Buckmark. I immediately regretted it (not because the Browning sucked but because I really like the 422). Have been looking for a good deal on a 4" 622 or 2206 ever since. So I know your pain and am very happy you were able to get a 422 back in your hands. Enjoy it!

Thanks guys!

Got to the range this afternoon. The gun shot and functioned great! What a relief. It didn't choke on anything (I brought 8 different loadings) and shot pretty decent groups, except surprisingly for CCI Standard. It does like a high velocity round to shoot to point of aim, though. Shot high with everything below CCI Mini Mag velocity. It liked the Mini Mags the best.

I've had several 422's and always liked them.Sold them for one reason or another.About a month ago I bought another that is a first year production with the box, oil and ammo.I'll keep this one.Good score there.

Besides these six, I have owned two other FS, 4.5" barrel, #422's. I wore the finish off them stuffing them in and pulling them out of a Bianchi X15 shoulder holster. Sold those and replaced them with the pair of #622's. The #422 in this photo has never seen a holster.
