Default Big Dog CS9 & CS45 Grips...

I recently received two grips from Big Dog for my CS9 & CS45 and couldn't be happier; they came with the necessary mounting hardware and a great installation guide...they fit very well and feel great! These are the grips S&W should have put on these fine compact handguns form the factory.
If anyone owns a CS series pistol and is using it for concealed carry, you may want to seriously consider contacting Big Dog; he's a very nice man to deal with and offers a great product!
I'm away from my firearms and camera for several days, but if you use the search function, there are several posts showing photos these stocks so you can get an idea of not only the functionality, but the ascetics as well.

Default Big Dog Grips = Grips for the Chief Special Autos

Big Dog Grips are grips custom formed from Smith and Wesson Grips to fit the CS9-40-and 45 pistols.
I have produced and shipped over 200 set to date.
G

This pic shows the factory Hogue rubbers and the a set Of Big Dog Longs to compare them.

We also have our Gator Grip Line where my partner stipples them and coats them with a clear that keeps them from sticking to you clothes and gives a better grip on the pistol.

Big Dog, Do you have a thread (link?) with more specifics about your CS grips? Also, what is the price? Thanks.

Nope.......no web site....Sales have mostly been by word of mouth by people who have bought, tried and like them.
Feel free to e-mail me gnk33@neo.rr.com
I will be starting the last batch for a few weeks this upcoming weekend.

I know this thread is old, but a couple of weeks ago(1/2014) I was checking out Big Dog Grips on a website. or what seemed like a web site, there were pictures of the products, grips for CS45, CS40, and CS9, pricing and ordering info, contact phone number and email address, etc. I bookmarked it. it was griftac.com. Now, when I go there, it's a bunch of stuff about RPG games?!?!?! nothing at all about the real world or custom grips. Was I hallucinating a few weeks ago, or am I hallucinating now? When I google Big Dog grips, www.griftac.com shows up as a one of the hits still. Anybody know what's up?

I don't know what happened, but the website is gone, that's why you are seeing that funky generic web advertising page.

I have no idea what happened to the site or to him, he has not logged on here since August of 2013. I hope all is well with him.

I'll tell you, I have a set of his grips on my CS9 and I they are the only way to go, love them.

Just to add a little flair, here is a pic with the Big Dog grips.

When I bought a CS9 used, it already came with a set of BigDog Grips. Love the feel of 'em. Unfortunately, they're starting to get a little loose on the frame and slipping or twisting when the gun's fired. The movement's less than an 1/8 of an inch. I need to remove them and see what's going on.

I'm certainly not trying to disparage a Forum member, but I don't see a thing about the BD grips that you can't do yourself if you're careful. I don't know what the S&W Delrin grips cost these days, but when I picked some up online a couple years ago for my 3913NL, they were around $20. I'm sure he's a craftsman, and the work I've seen is absolutely first-rate, but I can't get past $100 including the price of a factory set. For that money I'd want some super-fancy rare wood.

I tend to agree, but after doing something similar with CT laser grips I can tell you that there is more to it than meets the eye.

Besides just chopping off the bottom of the grip, there are two major problems to overcome. First, you have to find a way to support the mainspring since you chop that off when you shorten the bottom. Second, you have to drill a hole for the pin in exactly the right spot - miss just a bit and the grip slides around.

So to do a decent job, you almost have to build a jig of some sort - probably two of them. Then, you may screw up a set of grips - or two - getting everything adjusted. Sometimes you'll screw one up doing the modification, too - can't sell those.

Oh, and don't forget to finish the bottom and fill in the gaps around the frame of the gun.

Having had some experience doing the laser grips, I've looked at Big Dog's work - my CS9 came with them - and I don't think he's getting rich.

I have his email address that was on the website, I'll see if I can get hold of him on that, I just discovered his product a few weeks ago, and now I can afford a set. That's about the only thing my CS45 needs, otherwise it's a sweet CC weapon, very accurate for such a short barrel.

Please let me know what you guys found out as to weather he is still in business. My friend has a CS45, I sold it to him 5 years ago, and the grips, "according to him" are Breaking down, "gooey", so he wants a new set, and being a shut in, and not having a computer, he is stuck. Please let me know if there is anyone making ant knid of grips for this model. Thanks,
Gym

If anyone knows his real name, one can run a temperature check...

One of the websites I frequent (TFF) has a lot of older members...
usually when they go silent, its due to assuming room temperature...

Another thing...always have the location of a list of your gun site passwords known to your family.
That way, if you do become very ill or deceased, they can let folks know.
Your porn site passwords, don't list

I have been in email contact with Gearl, (Big Dog).

I sent him a private message which if his email is still attached he should get it. No word yet. I did however successfully convert a set of wood 3913 grip to fit my CS9 perfectly. With the right Drexel tools and patience one can do it.

Got a question since your familiar with BIG DOG grips and the CS9. The factory CS9 grips are wider and fit securely against the plastic retainer mounted at the bottom of the frame. Did BIG DOG address that issue and does not have any gap between the frame and the retainer. If someone has a picture of the bottom with a pair of BD grips mounted with the mag out I'd appreciate it.

Default Big Dog Grips No More

Everyone,
Just a few minutes ago, I received a note from Gearl. I've snipped to the heart of the conversation, as he asked me to post.

His words:
"If you would be so kind and let everyone the forum know that I have a couple or 3 of the cs 40 and cs 9 grips and will sell them at a good deal I would appreciate it"

Sadly, he's out of the grips business.

Default will take a cs40 grip

I would like one of the cs40 grips if still available. How should I go about making contact with Big Dog and payment?

Back when the CS45 was still a welded-up prototype (S&W built the .45 first, followed by the 9mm and .40) I was shooting sporting clays with the S&W engineers on the project. They brought me in to check it out and get my opinion.

I told them I liked the gun but hated the grips. Everything got silent and all the engineers had a look on their faces like I just kicked their dog. It was a look of utter disbelief. They told me that the engineers had Hogue design the grips in a shape that most people liked and they designed the rest of the gun around them. I told them they are too bulky and the worst material you can have on a carry gun is soft rubber to catch on your clothes.

They could have cared less that I liked the gun as a whole. All they kept repeating was "I can't believe he didn't like the grips."

If the CS40 grips are the same as the CS45 grips, I would also buy one if available. Thanks

Has anyone ever thought of or tried to use a 3d printer to make grips for the cs series pistols? I've seen what 3d printers are capable of and would think it could be done. I plan on getting a cs45 at some point in 2016 and when I do I will try and get a set made. Ill keep you fellows posted.

I have carried a CS 45 for many years. I bought it new. These grips look nice, I will investigate them further.

I sent an email and asked about the grips. Gearl said NO GRIPS are available. I assume that means now and in the future.
