Post 3913 Back from "Actions by T"

Hello everyone, I just met the wonderful man in the Fed-ex truck who dropped off my pistol. It came all the way from Sugar-land Texas courtesy of Teddy Jacobson of Actions by T. What follows will by my review of the work done. I shipped the gun off on the 25th of last month and it was delivered today. Turnaround time gets an A+ from me. The work done was extensive.
1.Complete Action Job, everything inside the weapon is polished and jeweled like you would not believe. Its pictured below.
2. Install Hammer and trigger Wolff springs, and replace the recoil spring.
3.Clean and lube the weapon
4.Polish the breech face, Its slick let me tell you.
5.Re-cut crown to 45 degrees and polish the bore
6.Refinish the rear barrel section.
7.Polish the feed ramp. I can see myself in it, no joke.
8.Paint the sights and place his logo

The trigger was reduced and smoothed out from 12.5 DA and a 6 pound SA to a 9 pound DA and a 5 pound SA. Grand total with shipped was just under 300. Keep in mind that shipping is 65 or so.
Teddy is a great guy to work with, I called what felt like daily and he was never too busy to give me an update on my weapon and to answer any question I had. His communications gets a big star in my book.

The overall gun

Polished Internals

Re-crowned and polish muzzle

Below is a question I have, when Teddy was re-working the barrel he noticed that there were no locking lugs on the barrel. Can anyone confirm this and let me know if this is a 3rd gen thing. This barrel is new from S&W I had it replaced about 4 months ago and it has given me almost 2,000 trouble free rounds. Here are the shots of the barrel.

A related thread about my search for a smith.

Hey Datsun, would love to get together and try out your reworked gun. It looks great!

I just pulled out my 3913LS and looked at the barrel. It looks just like yours. I'm not sure what he might have been thinking about.

Carry on!

my 3913 has a locking lug about a 1/4" forward of the block that contains the chamber. your barrel DOES NOT look like mine.

mine is a standard 3913, VCRxxxx s/n - is your barrel possibly a 908 style barrel?

My bad, Datsun! After TG's post, I looked up what a locking lug is. lol! I had been thinking it was a linking pin (like on my 1911s). Guess that's what I get for being a psychologist, huh?

Anyway, my Ladysmith does have a locking lug.

In this picture, you can see the lug on the top of the barrel:

and, in this picture, you can see the recess underneath the top of the slide where the lug rests:

my 3913 has a lug (ring) completely around the barrel which fits into the slot milled into the slide. Your barrel (fuzzy picture) appears to have this lug missing but there is some sort of ring looking line. Your slide has a lug groove just forward of the slide ejection port. Maybe S&W decided that the barrel lug was no longer a design necessity. ALL my other S&W autos have the barrel lug. something does not seem right. I would contact their customer service. pete

Yep I just compared my barrel to Mgo's and it does not have the cut out, mine is just solid and smooth. I will have to give them a call.

I called S&W and spoke with a tech about the barrel. The answer is that S&W changed the design on the new/replacement barrels to not include that lug. I asked if the gun was still safe for +P and +P+ and they said it would be fine. So if you order a new 3rd gen barrel don't expect it to have a lug there.

Nice 3913, no doubt even nicer that Teddy has placed his hands on it.

I did not know about the barrel lug update either, learn something new here all the time.

Teddy is still alive and kicking, he only does work he wants to. Call him up and ask is the SOP now. I called him and we had a long talk, said he could work on my weapon no problem, 10 days later I had a new gun.

I have an older W. German SIG P-228 with an action job done by "Actions by T" and it's awesome. Very smooth. Enjoy your 3913!

I know this post is 7 years old, but I am commenting because I found this post and sent Teddy Jacobson "Action by T" my S&W 642 and 6906 for an action job plus other work, basically the same work Datsun had done. Teddy is still alive and well and works 7 days a week mostly doing action jobs. His work is excellent. After getting my 642 back, I can honestly say I wish I sent it to him 24 years ago. Trigger pull went from 13.5lbs to 8-8.5lbs and is absolutely smooth. I love shooting this gun now! Teddy did all the work plus did a lot of free things Total was $583, that included both guns plus return shipping. Total time 34 days and that included him holding the guns until my deposit cleared before starting work and waiting to ship until final payment cleared(I paid by check). I am extremely happy with his work and saving to send him my sigs for an action job and to install the short reset trigger. You will not be disappointed with Teddy's "Action by T" work.

So glad to hear Teddy is still in the game - I'd not heard from him in many years, and thought he might have stepped down. Might need to send him something!

Glad you revived this thread from Datsun about his 3913NL. I bought the weapon from Datsun a couple of months ago and can confirm the smooth action by "T" but I've taken it a step further by sending it to BMCM for his magic on the slide.

Dead Blasted to remove holster wear (also taking T's logo) from the slide and fitted with TriJicon night sights. I've also added Hogue wood grips.

Anybody care to post contact info for "T"? I'd like to have a couple of my other Smiths sent to Teddy for trigger jobs.

Do you guys know what # Wolff springs he installs in the compact 3rd gen pistols? I ask because I did an action job on my 908 and used the Wolff 19# mainspring with the stock S&W drawbar/trigger spring and ended up with a very smooth 10-ish lb DA trigger pull. Primer ignition is 100%, but I'm considering trying the 18 and 17# mainsprings, along with a bit lighter trigger spring to see how that does.

My invoice doesn't list the spring weight for the Hammer Spring or Trigger Return Spring, but says Recoil Spring is factory standard. DA trigger pull went from 12.5lbs to 9lbs and SA from 6lbs to 5lbs.

Just found this thread after logging back in. So happy to hear the old girl in still in active service. I bet I put at least 15-20k rounds through her in USPSA, IDPA and steel matches. And used it for years as a carry gun. I don’t think it ever jammed up or misfed in all that time. Was and is a wonderful gun, glad it’s in a good home.
