When I first bought the 4506 it came with two mags and the followers were orange. I bought a factory mag at a gun shop some months later(around 1991) and the follower was yellow. In fact, there was a message on the side of the mag that said, "this magazine requires a yellow follower".

Does it matter? I don't think you can get a yellow follower anymore as they're all black to my knowledge. I was going to replace the spring and follower and just order the black one.

black followers will work in the yellow follower mag.

also, if your mag springs are painted yellow or have remenents of yellow paint, they are the older softer mags springs and need to be replaced with current SW issue.

IIRC the black follower will also work in your orange follower mags.

Sorry about getting back so late but something happened with my security system on the computer and I couldn't access the forum...or rather, it wouldn't let me.

I sort of figured the black follower could replace the colored ones but wasn't sure. I had ordered some new Wolff mag springs as I wasn't sure if S&W even carried parts for older guns at that point and figured I may as well replace the followers as well.

FireFox was giving me weird warnings too. No idea why.

It's good to see things back up and running again. some hacker causing problems again., I read of a 13 year old kid some years ago, that completely shut down a major security company (Gibson Research) by launching a DoS...13 years old!! People that do this **** ought to spend a little time in the old Medieval rack...maybe even thirty days in the electric chair.
