Question S&W 2213

I have a chance at a 2213 rimfire auto. It has a 2-3(?) inch barrel.... Any issues with these pistols? How reliable?

As hard to get a hold of as they are, and if its at or below about $350; buy it quick and ask questions later. I've found them to be very accurate for what they are and have had no reliability issues with the two I've had. If you don't like it, getting your money back is no problem.

I have the full sized brother, the 422, and it is a great pistol; very reliable and accurate enough for plinking. Be advised that spare parts are scarce for this pistol and replacement firing pins are nonexistent. I saw spare magazines for cheap at CDNN's website.

Spare parts can be found. If you need firing pins, contact -

Jack First Gunshop
1201 Turbine Drive
Rapid City, SD 57703-4740
(605) 343-8481

Price - $28.00 shipping is $9.50 . Beggers can't be to choosy when it comes to firing pins for the 422,622,2213,2214. You can find parts. I have two of most parts. ie.. recoil springs, slide stop springs, extractors, firing pin springs ect. Rule is, if you buy one of these fine pistols, and you like it alot(that would be me), Get your parts ASAP. I will be shooting my 422 and 2214 for a long time to come.

Default BUY IT NOW!!!

I have one for the last 5 years...it IS the most reliable small .22 auto I have owned. I really like pocket pistols and havee had many .22's and .25's over the last 50 years or so, and this one is the ONLY .22 reliable enough to carry... keep it clean and it WILL WORK!

It is no target pistol, but the sights are very good. It can easily be carried cocked and locked - has a great safety and a cocked indicator.

Mine was around $240 over 5 years ago, and I'd buy a second one at that price in a minute if I could fine one for sale....most owners won't well them.

S&W, bring this one back - it is a very good pistol.

I'd like to ask "dogngun" about the cocking indicator, I have a 2214, I just looked at it, and I don't see one on mine. Am I overlooking something ?

As far as the pistols go, I have had mine since about 1990, and while I don't shoot it a lot, it has been reliable and trouble free. I don't feel comfortable carrying mine in a pocket "cocked and locked" however.

The gun has an internal hammer, so when a round is chambered the gun is always cocked. With the safety on the gun is "cocked and locked".

Hello retired2006,

The entire series of 422,622,2206,2213 and 2214 have this feature (cocking indicator). It is on the bottom of the butt behind the magazine well. see page 9 of the Safety & Instruction manual. Last paragraph on page. The protruding main spring guide sticking out of the pistol indicates that the pistol is cocked.

look at the heel of the handle - when the gun is cocked, the end of the spring guide rod protrudes from the bottom - you can feel and see it.

(I had the gun for several months before I made the connection...DUH.)

The safety locks everything, and I have not had anyproblems carrying it cocked and locked for the last several years...the safety is very positive and it is NOT a striker-fired pistol, but an internal hammer gun - a very safe design.

From dogngun: "(I had the gun for several months before I made the connection...DUH.)"
Don't feel too bad, I have had mine for 20 yrs, and had to ask about it, so I guess I am a REAL DUH, I guess I learned something new today,
Thanks, retired2006

I have one and find that it shoots high velocity ammo, such as CCI Blazers and CCI Mini-Mag very reliably. So much so that I would carry it for defense. It is not reliable with standard velocity ammo because, I believe, there is insufficient pressure to eject the spent case. So use it with high vel ammo only.

It is certainly not a target gun. But at close range (under 10 yards) it's accurate enough.

I had a near mint 2213 listed in the classifieds last week for $300.00 and only one guy expressed any interest. He has participated in this thread and offered the princely sum of $200.00 because he "knows" what they sell for. I moved it to GB and it sold for $375.00 with the "Buy It Now" function.

Depending on the price, yes, buy it. When I "discovered" these little gems, everyone had nothing but good things to say about them. Looked all over the net, gun shows, shops for about 6 months. Then a co-worker stopped at Gander about 1/2 mile from where we work and they had just gotten one in on trade, like new condition. 2213 (SS) with original carry case, holster, and extra mag. for the low, low, price of $180. I nabbed it. Then as luck would have it, a local pawn shop had a 2214 for sale. Again, like new, but no case, holster or extra mag. I nabbed that one too. They have been typically selling on GB and other sites for $300 or better, regardless of the condition. Hard to find.

I bought one on GB a few months ago for $300. It came with the rug, holster and two mags. My only complaint is that it refuses to eject the standard velocity load that my 63 loves. I have seen them go higher than $400, but not too long ago there were 3 or 4 on there to choose from.

Default I have been using Federal Auto Match or Federal HP's.

Have not had any problems with either of those rounds...
I prefer to carry solids rather than HP's for defense, if I am carrying a .22.
They penetrate much deeper.

FWIW, S&W still has extra mags for these guns, at least they did a short while ago.

I love my 2213 and my kids can have it when they pry it out of my cold dead fingers. It loves the CCI Blazer and mini-mags and even the bulk Federal stuff from Wally world High velocity stuff.

jack, customer service at S&W can tell you conclusively when the gun was shipped and maybe the manufacture date. I'm not aware of a data base that will tell you for sure. Congrats on the new find.
