S&W CS40 scandium frame
I'm thinking of buying this , and I have check just about every where and can't seem to find much info on this gun ,
Is it because it's not a good gun to have or is it a collectors gun which I don't want .
Any info or help would be great I'm supposed to go see it friday the 4th
he says it's in real good condition but the fact that I can't find any info on it has me worried
he wants $400.00 it is that a good price or too much
this is my first semi auto and first post on this site but thought I see what kind of info is out there for the gun thanks in advance and have a great day.

Scandium framed Chiefs Special?? Uhmm, no.
That said, the CS line is reliable and they make great carry pieces. Also, they're not at all shabby at the range either. $400 for a CS40 in decent shape is not a bad price.

It's an aluminum alloy frame, and $400 is very reasonable.

I've never heard of a scandium frame CS in any caliber. To my knowledge, as mentioned, they were all aluminum frame. They are however, really nice pistols, especially for concealed carry and $400 for one in either 9/40/45 caliber is a really good price if it is in really good condition. Its probably, for most people thinking of buying one, an OK price if merely in good condition.

Hi and welcome to the forum. The Chief's Special is not a Scandium Frame Pistol. It is made out of Alluminum alloy. The full line are fine CC pistols,I own the CS9.If the pistol is in good shape 400 dollars is quite reasonable price. If you do buy it the place for extra magazines and parts is Midway.Thier prices are lower than on the S+W site and even if there is a backorder items get shipped preety quickly. If you want to get rid of the nasty Hogue grips Big Dog makes Custom Delrin Grips for the full CS Series of pistols....Mike

Yep, as already mentioned, to my knowledge the CS series was never produced using a scandium aluminum alloy frame, just their regular aluminum alloy.
Price?
Well, that might depend ...
Is it in good condition and how badly does someone want to own it? They aren't making any more of them, you know, and fewer of them were eventually made than the other CS models.
The CS40 didn't achieve the sales popularity of the CS9 & CS45 models. They had no problem selling the CS9 & CS45, but the CS40 just didn't sell well.
I remember when I heard a rumor they were going to discontinue production of the CS40 and I asked someone at the company about it when I was making a parts order. The gentleman said that the decision had been reached because less than 100 units had been sold during the previous year's production.
FWIW, the 4040PD was made with a scandium aluminum alloy frame, but it was eventually discontinued, too. The cost of the scandium aluminum alloy was thought to have priced the compact 4040PD out of the reach of what most customers seemed willing to pay, especially with the small, less expensive plastic-framed guns dominating the market.

Welcome to the Forum Smoke It
This is the CS40.It is Possible that the black alloy frame could be confused with scandium.
They were produced from 1999 to 2002.
This one has the "Big Dog" custom made grips on it that Cruiser RN mentioned.
$400 for one in good shape is a good price.

these are great weapons. I have shot the cs9 and the cs40. I think the cs40 is better with Big Dog grips. The price you quoted sounds good. Pick em up while they last.

CS40 is a great CCW, very realiable and accurate for such a short barrel. Check the calssifieds, you could find a nice one there too.

I just purchased a NIB CS40 from a gun shop in Kansas City. I was actually looking for an M&P compact, but saw the CS in back corner of the showcase. I really like it. Comfortable to grip and shoots accurate.
