Default Performance Center 3rd Gen Action Job

Has anyone used the S&W Performance Center to do an action job on a 3rd Generation Auto? I have a 10xx that has quite a bit of holster wear and need new night sights that I am thinking about sending in to have the finish bead blasted. While it is there, I wondered if it would be worthwhile to get the action job done...

What exactly, is done for the action job? Does it really make an appreciable difference? This will be a regular CCW for me, so I appreciate your experiences in having work done by the Performance Center.

Thanks!

Glad you asked the question for me too. I was thinking of sending in a DAO 9mm for a "trigger job", seems the trigger is a bit too "stiff" for me.

They had my 1076 and said that they do not do action jobs on pistols with frame mounted decockers.

Really... I wonder if they'll tell me the same thing -- or if it is worth the $150 charge anyway? I may just get it refinished and new sights installed and be done with it.

You might want to check around locally. Most any gunsmith that was around in the 1990's can smooth up the action on a 3rd gen S&W and many can also bead blast. I've had both a 1086 and a 4586 bead blasted for about $40 and an action job done at the same time for another $25.
Bead blasting makes those stainless steel pistols look like new, with a nice matte finish.

Default Action

A cheap compromise is to purchase a lower power mainspring and install.
This is an easy fix to accomplish. My local gunsmith did that and it improved my trigger pull on my 5906.

Best regards.
