Default Correct Recoil Spring for +P Loads?

I've got a 4586 on order from Buds, and was thinking about shooting Speer's +P 200gr & 230gr Gold Dots. On the Wolff Spring website, they list 17 lb as the standard weight. Will this weight spring work with +P loads, or would I be better off going to an 18 or 19 lb spring? Anyone have experience with this?

I've never had to change the spring weight in two different 3rd Gen pistols as a result of going to +P. some pistols may vary but I think this will hold true for most all of them. Others may have varied experiences but I don't think there will be a problem. I've shot countless rounds of 185 and 200 gr +P loads in the 4506 using the factory standard spring.

Don't start changing springs before you even have the pistol. Shoot it as is and change springs only if you have a problem or want to improve something.

Ok, I wasn't sure if a slightly heavier spring was needed to cushion the frame from the heavier battering of the slide.

It could help if you planned to shoot thousands and thousands of +P rounds, but I bet your hand and wrist would give out long before the pistol. Stock factory springs for +P rated pistols are fine for occasional +P use.

I agree with the other comments. I have tinkered with rcoil spring rates with S&W and other pistols. I always went back to the standard recoil springs on the S&Ws. I think S&W has this stuff figured out pretty well. I have used quite a bit of, what might be considered, full-power ammo in the S&Ws, 9MM, 10MM,.45ACP, and never broken or damaged anything. You could just use one of those BufferTech type buffers on the recoil spring. If you do though, I'd suggest checking it often. I tried them in my 1026. Within two magazines, they were coming apart and slowing down the slide's return to battery. ymmv
