Default Model 61-2 hammer won't stay cocked.

Need a guru's assistance here. Got A 61-2 Escort been in the safe a long time. Pulled it out to take it for a spin and when I went to run some snap caps through it for pre-range check it wouldn't work (no hammer fall on trigger pull after racking a snap-cap). Field stripped it and found the hammer full forward, no other obvious problem. Tried to move the hammer back to full cock so I could reassemble, but no joy. Hammer won't stay cocked, so can't even reassemble at this point. No loose or obviously broken parts in the thing and I'm stumped. Any good advice greatly appreciated.

Give it a good clean and lube.

If it sat a long time I am going to bet the sear is stuck with some old, sticky lube. I would use an aerosol cleaner of sorts, and spray down in the area of the hammer and below. Then spray thoroughly in the magwell area up towards the hammer.

After that it gets to the sear spring not pushing the sear to engage the hammer for some reason.

Sorry about the delayed response fellas. Work had me out of town for a week. I field stripped it and soaked it in dunk-it while I was gone. Pulled it out this morning, hit it with some g96, took brass brush to it with more g96 and voila! Running snap caps like a dream. Thanks for sparing me the embarrassing 'you know you should clean it more often' lecture from the local smithy.
