Default S&W 645 custom?

Hello! I have 645 that has serrated front slide , longer slide release, polished SS hammer and the fastest trigger reset in the history of the world! Question is , does any one know of a factory pistol like that or did S&W come out with one like that ? Serial # prefix TBA. Maybe done by individual ?!

Prob went off to a first class gun smith. The front serrations weren't that common in the mid eighties when the 645 was produced.

Default S&W 645 custom?

It might have went to Novak. You should call as they may have record of the work.

That slide looks original (not 5906 as you mentioned). Someone rounded the trigger guard and cut front slide serrations which don't appear to match the rear and makes me suspect that Novak would do this. That is a Ed Brown slide release lever and were available as a purchase part back in the day. Has a red front sight insert. Rear sight is stock, an upgrade there would have been a nice touch. Not seeing much else.

Is the barrel top marked Barsto? If so, it would then have a match barrel and maybe a trigger job would have been in order as well.

Same as all above mentioned, but looks like a 745 hammer,
although it's hard to see.
Is it still a double action, or is it now a single action?
I've seen a few of these custom 645's, some even with
compensators. Again, it's kinda weird that the rear sight has
not been changed, and why the Ed Brown/extended stuff didn't continue.
I thinks it's way cool, and would be a great addition to any S&W
collection.

the front slide serrations look good, but are most certainly not cut from the same machine as the rear ones. The angle matches well, which is a sign of someone knowing their craft.
This was not common in the 80s, nor was the rounding of trigger guards. My assumption is that the previous owner wanted it to fit in holsters for his 4506-1 and cut the trigger guard. (I would)
It looks very good, and I think it's tastefully done.

That is pretty neat, I would have to say unlikely to be a 745 hammer as it is stainless or silver in color, all the 745 hammers are black. I would guess that the 645 hammer was heavily machined to look that way. Love the work on the trigger guard.

That back strap/MSH is also odd in that it appears black, not an original color for it or even the 745. (the two models share some parts)

I don't know whether you would call this custom work or a surgical strike, but I didn't like the jaw on the trigger guard, the ears on the adjustable rear sight or the phillips screw in the right decock/safety lever. My gunsmith said that I would ruin the collector value, and I said do it anyway. So here it is. And I do like it.

Well, if the pistol were dead mint/NIB with every included original piece, one could certainly argue that collector value has been compromised. Then again, we are talking about a full production gun, and a high production gun at that.

I totally dig the changes, while only one picture is provided -- I can only say that it looks like fantastic work, and sitting next to an all-original adjustable sight 645, I would totally choose yours!

Specifically... I have wondered for at least a couple decades (and said so in past discussions on these pages) if it were possible to do some very skillful cutting work to make the adjustable sight look far less hideous and I believe your picture is fantastic evidence that "YES!", indeed it is possible! I think it still looks a bit odd (honestly haven't seen anything similar) but it looks pretty good -- and it certainly looks far better than the original adjustable sight.

The work on the trigger guard I have seen before, and dangit, if I had the metal-working skill I would do it to my 745 tomorrow. That looks great.

Thanks for sharing this one!

Wish you were closer to me than Gulf Shores, AL, mubar. I would give you the price for which you have listed it on Armslist.

I didn't buy it for the collector value although it is pristine and complete with everything except the original grips. I will not miss them. I wanted a 2nd Gen for what it could be. So, I threw the ugly duckling in the phone booth and out came a supergun.
