Default Original owner Model 1006 current value?

Hello, I'm a total rookie here so go easy on me. I have a 1006 that I bought new (1992?). Serial number prefix is TFD. I have the original box, paperwork, 3 magazines (yellow followers), a Biachi holster and mag holder, and 150 rnds of ammo. This firearm is factory original with less than 300 rnds, and is un-molested in any way. I almost never take it to the range because of the scarcity and cost of ammo. In my ignorant opinion, it is at, or near, collector grade quality. I am interested in selling it to fund the purchase of another firearm (that I can afford ammunition for) and I would like some feedback on a reasonable price expectation.
Any info on selling strategy or value is much appreciated. Thanks.

Put it on GB with no reserve to get your best return.
I'd give you $1000 with everything you have pictured myself.
The 1006 is the most produced 3rd gen 10mm, 26,978 produced.
Nice package.

You can search auction sites such as GunBroker for "Completed" auctions - typically under "Advanced Search" options - which will give you an idea of what they have been selling for.

Just be sure the sale is legitimate - there have been about half a dozen 1006's "sold" in the $600-800 range recently which have turned out to be bogus sales - some items sold more than once with same info stolen off a legitimate posting elsewhere.

There seems to be a sudden rash of such fraudulent sales recently - especially high end guns at low prices - so tread carefully esp if seller has no or negative feedback.

On the legitimate side, I would guess $1000 up depending on condition and number of magazines - Add about $90 for each extra magazine above 2. Add for original box and condition.

A nice 1066 in "excellent condition" just sold at Cabellas on another site in the $1200 range with 2 or 3 mags but I dont think it had original box. The 1066 is probably slightly more desirable size and higher value due to lower production.

And while I would also give you $1000+ for quick sale, I think you are more likely in the $1200-1500 range.

If I was you , I'd sell it here . You've probably have had many offers already . My 1006 , like yours rear sight adjustable , is my favourite 10mm . My1076 I don't shoot much . I would say at least $1000 , maybe $1100-1200 . Knowing the guys here , it's probably already sold .

Default I have two of them.

And I would not let either one of them go for less than a thousand dollars. Hold out on a nice package like that and you can likely get more IMO.

Agree - post it here in Classifieds is best option.

Figure cost of shipping and FFL if necessary on your end. Buyer would have to pay taxes and shipping if listed on Auction sites, split the difference and you should get a bit more here (also less the Auction site's cut) and he pays a bit less.

Nice 1086 (low production 1660 made but DAO) with 3 mags but no box currently listed here at $1500 (not mine).

26978 of 1006 made, 13805 of 1076, 5067 of 1066, 3125 of 1026, 1660 of 1086, and the winner is 151 of the 1046. Rare is more $ to collector (FBI documented 1076's are a premium) but TDA (1006 or 1066) is more desirable to user.

I would start at least $1200 maybe more and negotiate.

Few if any on here would let that package leave your hands for under $1,200 in today's market.

Start high, say $1600 for that package, you can always go down but not up.

Like he said, basically you're gonna regret it "hugely" if you sell it to fund another. Just save up and add to the collection, never swap one out for another.

I'd say that is a fair price, I'd even try starting a little higher. If you were selling your package in Canada you'd easily sell it for $2000 ($1625 US).

KBeasley....nice 1006 and looks in excellent condition....as stated above....think twice before selling. A few yrs back I had 2 1006’s, 1026, 1066, 1076 & 1086. I sold them all to help fund some beach property....I am just now beginning to purchase the S&W 3rd gen 10mm’s again....the price keeps going up....if you place it on the market outside of this forum, I would price it at $1500. Inside this forum $1,200 solid.

Good luck!

Cheers
David

Well, the model 1006 may have been the most produced of all the 10mm S&W autos, but they are now around 30 years old and ain't makin' them anymore.

So we have an excellent condition Model 1006 with original box & papers. Not that easy to find them with the original boxes anymore. They came with one spare mag. Add $75 for another spare mag. Add $75 for the Bianchi holster and mag carrier. Then add $150 for the ammo (at today's replacement cost)

I'd be thinking $1400 for the package and someone would be getting a very fair deal.

The closest thing on completed GB auctions I could find was a 1006 with box and docs and one mag that went for $1200(buy it now) two months ago. The OP’s pistol and box are in better condition, two mags and accessories. Based on that, I think that’s a $1400 to $1500 package here on the forum and a bit more at auction. The problem with an auction is that unless you’re an established top tier seller, you won’t get top dollar like they will, but you will probably do pretty well.

Just for ref - 6 1006 currently listed on GB - All appear to be legitimate sellers with positive feedback:
4 under $1000 - and only 2 of those have bids.
1 "NOS" listed at 1995 - no takers
1 with case & SW paperwork starting at $1450 with no bidders.

Disregard the 1046 at $7000 (rare 151 units) and crazy bidders. In fact disregard all other high $ 10xx (with possible exception of non-FBI 1076) as they were much lower number made and potentially more desirable.

Add the one mentioned before that sold recently at $1200
Add the ammo - if you intend to sell it (remember it may be challenging to ship ammo). Holster is nice, but unless it is what a buyer wants, it won't add much in my experience.

Factor in that you do not appear to have been a member of long standing or have a record on auction site (no offense meant, but it means you will not see the action that established sellers will get). Again, that means you would probably do better here on Classifieds.

I would start at $1400-1500 (nice 1086 currently listed at $1500 in Classifieds here) but be prepared to negotiate down to a floor - maybe as low as 1200-1300 - a number that roughly matches the "excellent" 1066 (but without box) sold earlier this week by BassPro / Cabellas.

And for a last reference, I broke down and traded for a very nice 1076 yesterday with a dozen mags (7 Accu-Glide and all but one with the more desirable white followers) and carry case - LGS had listed at $1995 - figure about $750-900 value for 10 "extra" mags so value of pistol would work out to 1100-1250 at LGS "Asking Price"

But personally, I would keep it and put away in safe and buy a 5906 or 6906 or other 9mm to shoot. There are some decent used 5906 / 5946 going around $500-600. And if you are interested I think I know of some decent used 5906 at $499 if seller still has them (PM me if you want info).

Best, Ed

Nice package.
Condition is LNIB, but this 1006 is, sadly, the less desirable 'target' model, being saddled with S&W's propriety adjustable sights for which there are no suitable aftermarket remedies.

For the gun itself and one mag, $900.00 max. With the box and extra mags, maybe $1100.00-$1150.00.

Tough love, I know.

If buying I would probably want to talk directly to his FFL and verify FFL and gun.

$1500 min. If you settle for less, you were impatient. A year ago I happily paid $1100 for a shooter with 2 mags. Put your package on here for $1600+ and let it ride.

The winged adjustable sights that S&W put on the 1006 may not be as attractive as the ones that were equipped with Novacks. But given that the variety of factory loads in 2021 range from 100 grain to 200 grain bullets and velocities ranging from 40 S&W levels up to the original 10mm specifications, you might appreciate having those adjustable sights.

I believe when the Model 1006 was first introduced, ammo choices were pretty much 180 and 200 grain full power loads and that's most likely what the Novacks were calibrated for.

I consider them to be the best adjustable sights ever designed for a handgun. They wouldn't detract from the value for me.

Thumbs up Much appreciated

Thanks to all who replied. Very helpful info. I've decided to keep my 1006 for now, taking the advice from a few of the replies here. I would probably never own one again. I had it at the range a few weeks ago and the shop owner asked me about it. I told him my *** story about ammo and that I was thinking of selling it. The guy offered me $1000 in-store credit without any solicitation on my part, which got me curious about it's value. To those who are suspicious of my post, I don't blame you, because I have no idea what I'm doing. I have only sold 1 handgun before. It was was an older model Beretta 92, and was a private sale to someone I knew a long time ago, so I am unfamiliar with the process, fees, FFL, and legal requirements. For whatever reason, I like these larger L frame autoloaders ever since my time in the Marine Corps when I was "volunteered" to 2nd MAW's shooting team (rifle and pistol). I was originally interested in the 10 because it had similar, if not better, muzzle velocity performance of my .357 (depending on loads). My 10 is by far, the most accurate and consistent handgun I have ever used, but the cost of ammo is prohibitive, and it's a bit of a beast as a carry.
So, for now, it's a good cleaning and then back into the cabinet. It's basically a very cool paper-weight at this point. As advised by some here, I'm saving my pennies for the .45 ACP I want (yes, I want a .45 and not a 9 mm). Thanks again to all.

Wise to keep it, Model 1006's are not exactly falling out of the trees these days. I'm sure the shop owner was eager to offer you $1000, he knows it would sell quickly for $1500, he might even know someone would be willing to pay even more to add one to their collection.

I agree, the 10mm Auto is a versatile caliber, very much like the 357 Magnum. In order to shoot the 10mm Auto and not go bankrupt you really need to be a reloader.

Good decision OP. It's not costing you a dime sitting around and it's not a gun you can run down to the shop and buy on a whim. Sounds like getting into reloading might be worth considering.

I came across this used 1066 many years ago, and since I love the 10mm caliber, the gun really fit my needs. Like you I will never sell it as it is a great carry weapon. Shoots straight and has never malfunctioned.
I would however love to have a 1006 as well.

Last week I spotted a 1006 listed for sale on a swap column at a local gun club. Gun, three yellow follower mags, box, several boxes of ammo and a set of Hornady dies. I have a nice 1006 with fixed sights. This one had adjustable sights and I was not drawn to that. But the price...$700 for all. The picture was low res but it looked nice as far as I could tell so I sent an email and asked for a better picture. Like Maxwell Smart used to say, "Missed it by THAT much". It was gone. The seller described the gun as pristine and this was after he sold it.

Very nice shooting!

The 10XX guns, especially the 4.25" "Commander-size models (1066, 1076, & 1086) were designed, first, to be fighting and self-defense pistols, not range toys or target guns. You can shoot very tight groups at realistic defensive distances out to, say, 60-ft just with fixed Novak sights.

My 5" 1006 sports the fixed Novak trijicons and there's virtually no difference in POI when shooting full-power factory ammo (UW/DT/BB) or handloads, regardless of bullet-weight. 155grns, 180grns, or 200grns. Doesn't matter. So a rear sight with adjustablilty just in order to shoot real 10mm ammo involving different bullet-weights, is unnecessary. (Obligatory pic of said 1006 attached).

There IS, however, a difference in bullet POI between, say, a full-power 200grn load (1200+fps) and a watered-down/40-level 200grn load (1050fps). Same bullet-weight, but that 200fps difference (give or take) does noticeably result in different POIs. That's why I stick to shooting 10mm ammo, and now mostly handloads, that yield velocities in the cartridge's upper range (at least 85% of full power) for a specific bullet-weight.

All that aside, ... S&W 3rd Gen adj. sights look like an ugly snag-fest waiting to happen, if you ever actually conceal-carry the gun. If it's just a range toy for occasional plinking on lazy Sunday afternoons, I guess it doesn't matter.
