Default UPDATE: Bodyguard 380 Problems

I received a replacement for the pistol that failed after the first shot and proceeded to the range for testing. Unfortunately, this replacement also failed with exactly the same failure mode as the first one after only 15 rounds. Disappointed again, I returned it for yet a third replacement (yes, I am determined). This time the trigger remained in tact for 100+ rounds. However, the takedown pin came loose on two occasions (one of which resulted in a smoke stack) and the left side laser button requires superhuman force to activate. It should be noted that the third replacement was selected based on a serial number approximately 2000 digits removed from the first two. I love the feel and features of this gun and will return the third replacement to the factory to get the laser button repaired and to tighten the takedown pin. I know that S&W will eventually "make it right". Oh, I should also mention that this gun shoots low (off hand and benched).

Aren't you having to go through a FFL in order to get these replacement guns? Or are you a FFL holder? It is great that they are taking care of you, but I would still be frustrated.

After the second one broke, I probably would have asked for credit towards a different model gun or a refund. This gun is designed to be a carry gun. Having two that failed on the first time out would destroy my confidence that a replacement could ever be adequately reliable.

I hope the "third time is a charm." Keep us updated.

You don't have to go through an FFL to send or receive a firearm from a gunsmith or manufacturer. If they change the serial number (as in a replacement gun) then that has go through an FFL. I shipped an MSAR E4 bullpup straight back to the manufacturer and they had to replace the receiver but they were able to renumber it the same as the original so they could ship it straight back to me. Adult signature usually required upon receipt. If you're ordering from a dealer or doing a through the mail private sale it has to go through an FFL.
