The serial number is a four digit number #61XX. Anyone know when this one was made?

I had a 39 "no dash" with serial number 6677 that was shipped in, I believe 1957, I think the year they started stamping the model numbers. Keep in mind, S&W did not ship their guns as they made them...so serial numbers did not necessarily equate to a certain year. I know mine was shipped that early cause I ended up ordering a letter for that particular gun. Sad to say, I sold it a few years ago..don't have it or the letter anymore...yours has to be in that year or very close to the first year of the model 39 being stamped...
