Default Some 6906 Questions

Found a S&W 6906 at a local pawn shop that I liked. Normal signs of wear & use, but it looks great. From what I can gather from searching here it is a early model with the hooked trigger guard and standard sights - no Novaks. Had some finger grip Hogues on it. Fine by me as it reminds me of the Devel S&W pistols. In fact if I got it I'd send it to a gunsmith to make a poor man's Devel.

So my Questions:

The DA pull seems pretty long, can a gunsmith shorten it up?

What kind of aftermarket sights can I find for a 6906? Was kind of thinking about a AO Big Dot.

What is disassembly like? Would it be similar to my Browning Hi-Power?

Thanks.

Switching out some springs can probably shorten.......or tighten up the DA pull for you.

Meprolight, Trijicon, Novak.....and I'm sure I'm missing a few, all make sights for the 69XX series.

Disassembly is simple. Drop mag, push slide back to line up detent with slide stop, push out the slide stop, pull the slide forward off the frame.

Then remove the recoil spring/guide rod assembly and pull the barrel out.

When putting it back together be sure to FULLY depress the three levers back by the hammer. Using an ice cream stick works for me.

Sweet pistol the 6906. Sorry I sold mine. Regards 18DAI.

What 18DAI said. I have had 2 of the 6906 series. My first one I bought from a friend, he said it had ejection problems. It was a first gen. with hooked trigger guard. A smith checked it for me, said they were known to have weak extractor springs on occasion. When I got it back it was 100% reliable until a year or so + 1,000 rounds, when it went down with a broken trigger draw bar. I was suspicious of the metalurgy after that and sold it after repairs were made.

I now have a 3rd gen. 6906, a police trade in, which has been 100% with all ammo I have stuffed into it. It has not demonstrated any of the extraction problems, etc., that I experienced with the first one. I like the little gun, and carry it everywhere that it is legal to do so.

Accuracy is great with it, is light in weight, and conceals reasonably well under a shirt tail if one is careful.

The trend seems to be toward lighter polymer framed pistols, but with a good 6906 one can still do good work. You should still be able to find Nite Sights for it from the major suppliers. Regards, SR78
