S&W 1066
Morning troops,new boy in town.
I have found a S&W 1066 with one mag no box for sale.
I had a quick inspection and could not see anything wrong.
Guy wants $675.
First is this a good price I cannot find any comparisons.
Second is there anywhere on the frame or slide I should look at for cracks etc?
Third I suppose is buying parts, where is a recommended site for parts and things.
Number 4 is there a spell checker here??
Thanks in advance.

The price looks okay to me. The 1000 series is the most solid 10mm platform out there IMHO. I doubt you'll find a "crack." Finish, round-count, and daily-carry are what I'd want to know about.
The magazines are probably going to be difficult to locate. Ammunition won't be much of a problem if you reload.

That sounds like what they are going for in my area. The 10xx series pistols are bringing a premium in certain areas.

A bit high. I would not pay more than 575 for that because of only one mag. I own one and it is a keeper. I have bought and sold four 1076's, two 1086's, three 1006's and one 1026. This one by far, is my favorite.

The 1066 is one of the harder to find 10mm pistols. The price isn't great, but it isn't terrible either. I would probably try to talk him down a little, but if you really want the pistol I wouldn't lose the deal over $50 either. These pistols are also a solid chunk of steel and are very reliable.

New factory magazines are available rom CDNN for around $32. As far as price, it's hard to buy any 10XX in decent shape under $600 from what I've seen. I have the 1006, with a bit longer barrel than the 1066. It's a keeper.

Check youtube for Smith & Wesson field strip videos. Probably can find a video easy enough, I think all 3rd Gens. field strip the same.
Here is a link to a 4566 field strip video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLlOyNKdHX8
If you search 4566TSW, I think there is only 1 video, has some shooting at beginning, but a fairly good field strip video towards the end of it.
Hope this helps.

I got one on GunBroker in 95%condition for $505. I took a little bit of a chance because the seller was an inexperienced first seller on GunBroker, but it was worth it.

Photobucket will work fine. That is probably a fair price. Someone will always chime in that they bought one cheaper, but they won't sell it for the price they bought it .

1066
As 6covered said, I did just pick up an excellent 1066 from him (thank you, sir) at a very good price. The pistol I received is in great condition and is an excellent shooter. I got it at a price that was much less, but have to say I would have been willing to pay more for the one I got. I think $675 is a tad on the high side, but they aren't that common. If you feel good about it, I'd get it. You can also still get original S&W magazines from S&W. I got two with mine, but just bought one more. I can't express how much I like this gun, and I wouldn't worry much about it cracking.

Oh now you tell me. Ha! Actually I think I got a fair price.
Glad the gun went to such a good home.

I lucked into a real nice 1006, 1 mag, no box for $320 a couple of months ago. A few weeks later, my F-in-L paid $675 for a 1076 with 2 mags, no box and felt lucky to find it. The 10XX's definately bring a premium unless you luck up on a situation like I did.

Manual
Thanks for the Manual Link.
Does any member have a Full Strip down to the frame for changing worn out parts, and cleaning?
I am competent doing this but an illustrated step by step would be nice.
Thanks

1066
I guess it's my turn to chime in, I just
Got a 1066 ( I'm ecstatic )haven't shot it much, but I've
Shot a lot of guns and will say it feel awesome. I love it so
much I do believe the next 1046 I see go up for sale I'll buy.
This is my first S&W auto, and only my second S&W I've ever bought (have a .460V) I don't see how this thing could ever brake
I'm definitely glad I joined the 10xx club.

1066
A 1066 is next on my list of 3rd gens, I have a 1006 which I love but a 1066 might be a little easier for EDC, besides I like to have one of each barrel length in each caliber. I bought some spare mags for my 1006 from Midway awhile back genuine S&W but can't recall the price, it seemed reasonable at the time. Just received two boxes of Underwood ammo for my 1006 today, can't wait to get to the range and see how it shoots with some truly hot loads.

The 10xx mags usually are a available from S&W at around $40. If you watch Midway, CDNN, etc you can occasionally find them at around $30. Also see them at gun shows but prices are all over. At least they are still readily available for the time being at least.

I'm might start looking for a 1086 at some point but not
in a hurry. but I suppose if I see one in a shop locally I'll get it.
These gun really appealed to me for some reason, really good looking gun
& the 10mm round offers a lot of versatility.

New S&W'er with new 1006.
Howdy, S&W fans!
Brand newbie here with my first post.
I'm glad I found your forum. I just bought a 1006 in new condition, one magazine, no box, Hogue grips for 750.00. Haven't shot it yet, but I really like it a lot. Definitely SOLID built construction. A keeper for sure.
I do want to buy a couple more magazines. I will try contacting S&W about buying some from them, but what are these other places you guys are referring to? (CDNN, Midway) Need to know where else to buy 1006 mags in case S&W is out of them. Thanks very much for any input.

I just checked Midway and CDNN. Midway has them on back order. Check the classifieds on this forum. They show up pretty frequently.

eBay has 4-5 diff people selling right now but they are insane prices. Or maybe they are the new current price for discontinued magazines? Highest was $115... For one... Plus 5.99 shipping...
