S&W 4506 or 1006 in "The Glades"?
Has anyone been able to sit through a whole episode of The Glades long enough to tell whether the main character is packing a 4506 or 1006? (I'm pretty sure it's not a 4006...)
In the glimpse I got, it looks more like a 1006 on the business end -- as in bore diameter. But it could be that Michael Chiklis's pistol from The Shield drifted down to south Florida...
The Smith in The Glades appears to be more strictly an "on-the-belt show prop only" for the main character -- rather than a sidearm -- as I've yet to see him use it. Often, he's pictured not even carrying at all. Either that, or he's found a really, really, really invisible concealed carry mode...

Looks like a .45 hole. Has the stock curved grip of a 4506. The 1006's were shipped with straight grips (though they interchange).

Not to change from "The Glades," but I thought I caught a glimpse of a 3rd Gen S&W in "The Whole Ten Yards" with Bruce Willis. Looked like a 5906 to me, but not sure, will have to check the imfdb database.

Very Sonny Crockett. It may be a south Florida thing? The 4506 would appear to an unlikely choice for a detective in his 30's carrying a big, heavy pistol (that has not been in the S&W catalog for years) in an S.O.B. holster. How does this guy drive a car with that honking pistol jammed in his spine?

I like "The Glades" it's a little loose on procedures but nobody is stupid, the police go from clue to clue and the hero likes the "overwhelming firepower" arrest technique which is used here in FL by policy. Now how he carries that 4506 concealed in tight jeans and a t-shirt, I surely don't know.
As for the database mentioned above, they have been accused of theft of text instead of just linking to the source. Cross reference MadOgre.com.

It's a TV show. He has the gun when the scenes call for it. That's how it's so easily "concealed."
And what PD issues that model these days? But it's still nice.

If you take a 4566 with a 1006 and hold them side by side they are almost identical (except for the caliber). The rear sight on the 10mm is adjustable for elevation and the 4566 is not so it looks a little different (the dovetail that holds the rear sight is longer on the 10mm) The grip is almost identical unless a Hogue grip has been substituted. The Hogue has more curvature (a la S&W Mod 39).
I don't have any problem driving with a 4566 concealed on my waist but I'm looking into a Galco Shoulder rig.
So the question is--how is the barrel of a S&W revolver properly measured? From the muzzle to cylinder front so the forcing cone is included (the part screwed into the frame) or is it from the muzzle to the frame? Hmmmmmmm Thor

Oh, yeah. I forgot to ask. Is there a website to determine what generation of S&W semi-auto one has? Thor
