Model 745
Recently I picked up an S&W model 745, it is in pretty good condition, came with box and all paperwork including original receipt.
I am having a hard time finding much info on this gun so I thought this would be the best place to ask
The serial # is TBE10xx. Any info on when it was manufactured any personal experiences with the 745 will be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!
Sorry for the lousy pic, someday I will learn how to take good pictures!

I bought one of these back when they were new. Really good gun. My daughter took a shine to it so I gave it to her. I was hoping she would take up shooting, but so far she hasn't taken the bait. Very nice shooting, accurate gun. Basically same size and weight as a 1911. My only complaint is that the safety operates "backwards".

Your gun was produced in 1987. If you have any 1911 style pistol you will notice that the grip on the 745 is more straight. This actually fits my hand better and feels more natural. It has no grip safety so it is a very clean pistol. Only 745 magazines will work in the gun. The barrel has no removable bushing like the 1911. The safety lever has been my only issue causing FTF if it moves up beyond the milled slot.
A beautiful basic .45 with the safety in the wrong place.

As far as function the 745 will feed and cycle any style bullet, reload or power level you can think up. I eventually purchased a 945 the S&W with the safety in the right place. It is much more accurate than my 745 and the one gun I will always keep.

There are quite a few threads on the 745 on here if you use the search. A very underrated gun especially for the price. Any 645/845/4500 full size mags will work, the 945 mags have a higher catch notch and sometimes have both catch notches cut into them.

You see basically three styles of Model 745's. The first has a serial number beginning with "DVC" and markings commemorating the first 10 years of IPSC shooting, with a fixed (actually drift-adjustable for windage) rear sight. The second style is the same as the first without the IPSC markings. The third also lacks the IPSC markings and has a rear sight adjustable for both windage and elevation.
I see these guns for sale at what look like very undervalued prices. One shop locally had 3 of them, lightly used if at all, in excellent condition, priced under $500.00. Even then they sold slowly.
They are great shooters. Accurate, reliable, not fussy at all about the ammunition you want to shoot, a far better trigger than the Models 645, 4505 and most other .45's based on the same frame. Were the direction of operation of the thumb safety reversed, to coincide with the way a 1911 safety works, they would have been more accepted by the .45 ACP community.

I have a new in the box 745 and one that I shoot. I changed the rear sight to adjustable. It will shoot anything I put in it. I also have a Colt and a Sig. I shoot the Smith the most
