Default Bodyguard 380 not ejecting spent round

I picked up a new BG380 on friday. Went to the range yesterday to dial in the lazer and abot 5 rounds out of 50 did not eject. It was almost like the next round was hitting on the spent round and causing it to hang up I would have to drop the mag and use my finger nail to remove the spent casing from the barrel. It would occur at different levels of the mag. Sometimes the second, third, or fourth round. Well I forgot my adjustment tool for the lazer so I went back to the range today with another 50 rounds and again about 5 to 7 times no eject. one time on the same mag. Anyone else having issues. I have read about the trigger problems and the take down pin backing out and I did not have those problems.

Can't speak to the BG380, but did you try different ammo? Maybe it's just a little finic, fina, nuts. Maybe its a little tempermental when it comes to ammo. If you were shooting hollowpoints, consider running a couple hundred rounds of hardball to smooth things out. If I understand you correctly, the empty round was not being removed from the chamber, not stovepiping or something like that. Did any rounds fire when struck a second or third time? If these were handloads, maybe the primers are too hard. I'll leave this to the guys with a lot more knowledge about gunsmithing because I don't pretend to have any, but maybe the ejector is weak, misaligned or something. Perhaps a trip back to the seller or sending it to S&W is in order, especially if it's not working with other ammo.

All rounds were Winchester White Box FMJ new ammo. No stove pipe the spent brass was still in the barrel and the next round was starting to come up and contacting the bottom
edge of the spent round. The round fired just not being pulled out of the barrel like the extractor is just missing the brass.

That's odd, first time I've heard of this issue. Mine has no problems with WWB FMJ. Did you clean the gun before you took it to the range?

Do the cases exhibit any metal deformation around the rim, where the extractor deformed them trying to remove them from the chamber. If not, probably the extractor is not doing its duty. If the rim is pulled through, then the cases are probably sticking in the chamber. Is the chamber rough? If this is still doing this after a 200 round or so break in period, I would send it back.

Thanks for the feedback. I am going back to the range today and to put 100 rounds thru it and I will see how it does. I wiil pay attention to the brass if I continue to have problems.

Default Similar Problem

I had almost exactly the same problem.

Situation: Brand new Bodyguard 380 M&P (no laser), paid for it and immediately took it on-range to try out different kinds of ammo (to see what would work best) and make sure it worked properly.

It didn't, even though I tried it with 2 different kinds of ammo (hollowpoints and some FMJ practice loads).

My process was: I would put 5 rounds in the mag, rack the slide to get the first round into the chamber, and begin firing. On most occasions, the first four would go just fine, but not the last round.

After firing the next-to-last round, the slide would not go all the way forward to prepare to fire the last round. (I think the term is that it would not "return to battery"...isn't that right?)

Instead, the slide stopped about 1-2mm shy of where it should have gone, and the last round wouldn't fire.

So, when I tried to eject the unfired round by racking the slide, the unfired round would not pop out; it just stayed there in the chamber. As I inspected it, it seemed that no part of the extractor was gripping the back of the cartridge; instead, the cartridge was entirely *ahead of* the extractor's "claw." So, naturally, it had nothing to "pull on" when the slide went back.

Any ideas how to fix this?

(Every time but one, the problem was with the last round. Only once did it fail on a cartridge in the middle of a mag. All told, there were probably 60 rounds that I attempted to fire, with around 8 failures, 7 of which were on the last round.)

I have put over 700 rounds through my BG380 and have not had this problem at all....bought mine last November and the only problem I have had was a few FTF and they fired when I pulled the trigger again....I would call customer service and see if they are having a problem, but they will probably just have you send it in....good luck

Have not had that issue with my BG380 although I have out some aftermarket parts in.
I have seen issues that sound similar with a Taurus 738 which I think have have a lot to do with the feed angle and ramp and which I have reduced but not eliminated.

Hope you get the problem solved. I almost bought one of those guns, but bought a Walther PPK & PPK/S instead. No problems with them so far. I have friends that want to buy the Smith or a Ruger .380, so I would like to know if you get it corrected. I don't want to advise them to buy the wrong gun.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Send it back to S&W!!

It's no good if it doesn't work. Your pistol doesn't work.

I wouldn't fiddle with trying to fix it myself.

If it were mine, I'd get rid of it since I would never feel confident in it, but that's me.

Just my opinion, of course.

I agree if your not confident with a weapon the get rid of it. Also this thread is from 08-30-2010, 07:39 PM and the fellow posted 4 times three in this thread and once about trigger reset, and no more. Guess he didn't like it here.

I have had a few issues with ftf, changed ammo and it hasn't had a problem since but not a lot of rounds through it yet. In other words, try different kinds of ammo. I love my BG380, easy to conceal and I am pretty accurate with it so unless it was a last resort I wouldn't want to get rid of it.
